Notes:

The power brick is HUGE.

Included in the manuals is an Xbox window sticky (similar to the Apple stickers you get in Apple products, this is a static cling sticker.)

The bag for each item in the box (controller, headset, AV cords, etc.) is labeled as to what it contains ("SEE", "PLUG", "PLAY", etc.) in English and several other languages. This is VERY cool.

Here are some pictures:

Where did you order it from?

Nov 22, 2005, 12:48 PM
:'( We showed up at bestbuy before it closed and they had already given out vouchers for all the premium systems. We should have gotten a core however... Our backup plan was Costco because they had 72 and they were not going to be giving out vouchers, so it was going to be first come first serve. Shoe up this morning real early (business members get in 1 hour early) and they tell us that so many people showed up yesterday that they gave out vouchers and told them to come back when they opened. So we miss out on both fronts.

Can't wait to hear your opinions Clayj - particularly as you've got the exact games I'll be getting! What screen are you running the 360 on?

In fact, looking at your pictures, you've got the exact same order as me! Only you've got yours:mad: ;) :D and I've got to wait until 2006 according to Amazon!!!!! Bah!

Can't wait to hear your opinions Clayj - particularly as you've got the exact games I'll be getting? What screen are you running the 360 on?Perfect Dark Zero, PGR3, Call of Duty 2, Kameo, Madden 06, and NHL 2K6 so far.

I'll be using this on a Runco 50" plasma TV in 1080i... ironically, I can't hook it up yet because I need some female-to-female RCA adapters!

Where did you order it from?EBGames, back in August. I ordered it about 5 minutes after I got e-mail from them announcing preorders.

Holy crap.

I'm sitting here right now... Xbox 360 hooked up and running in 1080i on a 50" plasma TV... just playing music from my Windows Media Center PC and watching the on-screen visualizations.

Never mind games... just seeing what this thing can do while playing MUSIC is worth all the money. I'd post a picture of the visualizations, but honestly this is something you really need to see for yourself. Stanley Kubrick should have lived long enough to see this... and I know there will be PLENTY of people dropping acid and sitting in front of their Xbox 360s watching the AMAZING on-screen visualizations. (It's REALLY trippy, and utterly smooth.)

Um, thanks. My line was a joke - in case you needed it clarifying. Hence the wink.

Anyway, back on track - a man like you Clayj must have an iPod (or 5 ;) ) - can you use the visualiser with one? And is the usability withe the on-screen interface as intuative as an iPod?

And as some folks may have mentioned.... screenshots dude, screenshots...

Hey clay.....is your 360 loud? I hope I just didn't buy a defective unit! It's somewhat loud. I've never had such a loud machine before when I've played with a PS2, Xbox, or Gamecube for that matter.

Oh....and I can't believe I just sold a premium console for $2500!!!

Wouldn't you need Male to Male cables to hook it up to a TV?

Also, I am no big games fan, but doesn't it also have support for HDMI? Or is this just the European model?

Darn, I should have pre-ordered about a 1,000 of these when they were first announced.

They are selling on ebay right now for $1,000+

Anyone know if there's anychance of picking one up at a store now? lol :D
Let's see $400 cost, $1000+ sell. Hmm, => $600 profit. I could definately use cash like that for college.

Wouldn't you need Male to Male cables to hook it up to a TV?No, because the 360's video adapter has male connects, and my component-to-CAT-6 adapter ALSO has male connects. But I got my female-to-female adapters, and now it's all up and running.

The power brick is as long as my shoe... and I can hear the fan, but it's not loud.

As to the iPod... haven't tried it yet. The 360 has three USB ports (two on the front, one on the back), so connecting it should be a snap. The interface is similar to the interface for Windows Media Center, just in HD now.

I was waiting at a target with my wife this morning - we were #13 and 14 in line. An hour or so later they came out to say they got 4 core systems. So we hightailed it over to Sams - where I had sent my parents to line up at 6 as a backup.

Sams had 20 units - my parents got #18 and I got #20 - for a friend not ebay. Though I am tempted to put mine up for sale since they are going for 1200+

I got one - a premium bundle (the 400 dollar one). I waited overnight in the pouring rain outside a Bestbuy in Massachusetts. Arriving there at 7PM landed me the 16th position in line, and I was actually permitted to enter the store (with two of my adjacent, newly made chums) at about 9am this morning. I had only enough cash available to buy the premium system plus one game, so I chose Perfect Dark Zero, which cost me $50 minus the $10 Bestbuy coupon. A little while later I stopped at ebgames in cambridge, Ma,on the way home and traded in a several PSP and DS games (supplemented with an extra 5 bucks) to buy Project Gotham Racing 3 and an extra WIRED controller. PGR3 was also 50 bucks, and the controller was 40. Almost traded in a 256MB memory stick and another game in order to get Call of Duty, but the meager ($10) trade-in value of the former helped me decide to wait until Friday's paycheck to get anything else.

haven't actually played the system yet (!), but I did open it almost immediately in order to put an end to the possibility of hawking the unopened package on ebay for 1000-1200. The tension that such a possibility was creating in me just had to be neutralized.

Then I took all the pretty stuff out, assembled a short photo sequence which I emailed to a friend, along with a few choice paragraph's from gamespot's review, so as to taunt him with "eat your heart out", and finally sat down again and read the PDZ manual front to back. Promising stuff.
Now I'm trying to convince my girlfriend, who just got home from work (and whose HDTV I plan to use until i can obtain a dvi-vga cable for my Apple 23"), that my best buy booty was something over which to get excited. Sad thing is, if i never brought the topic up again, she might not even ask to see the thing (not that thing, the other one!) in action ...:(

Well I guess that's what buddies and the the vicarious pleasure from corresponding with online strangers is for!

Haven't decided in which, if any Macrumors thread i shall post my impressions of the games themselves onced i actually play them!

Too much excitement! Almost so far over the top that I'm effectively at the bottom! Or is that just from a total lack of sleep? Naww..couldn't be...weird thing was...while taking a short break in McDonalds just before trekking home, and after having sloshed from store to store, I almost pulled out Mariokart and started playing, all the while with my yellow-clad xbox sitting on the window-sill, allowing the quasi- xray vision of some oderiferous skater teens to penetrate the semi-diaphanous best buy bags (inappropriately snug little things that they are).

stop looking for a VGA/DVI cable, because your SOURCE is VGA, which is analog, and the screen doesn't accept an analog signal through its DVi cable, according to apple's website.

I'm on an emotional rollercoaster! First, my August GameStop pre-pay was cancelled, so no 360. Then a friend gave me his. Then I got one of the limited Friday online Circuit City orders -- zero to two in less than 24 hours!

Today I find out that my friend's 360 reservation was sold out from under him because he wasn't at GameStop at midnight to collect his system. (Guess who isn't EVER shopping at GS again?) Down to one.

Oh, but Circuit City forgot to ship my 360 yesterday, meaning it'll be here tomorrow. Back to zero. :(

The gaming gods, they toy with me! :D

Got mine on launch day also. Works very well. I confirm, the PS is huge. don't drop it on your feet, you are going to break a toe.

Last thursday i walk into a computer. I was looking for a Dlink DSM-320 (wireless media player) when I hear 2 clerks and a client talking about X360. I couldn't resist to come into the conversation. So i told them, it was too bad, it was impossible to get an x360 before 2006 and one of the clerk look me at me and say : " Why ? You can pre-order one for me. I will receive 6 and I only have 1 pre-order. Buy me an game and an accessories and I will guarantee you 1.".

I went to the store last night after my workshift. No waiting line, no stand in the cold for hours, went to the counter and pick up my brand new X360.

I'll try to post picture of the PS later tonight

Pfft you, NZ has to wait till 2nd March 2006 before the first XBox 360s come.
Anyway, there isn't much point with the PS3 coming, although I fear MS will announce a new XBox much more frequently than what Sony does with their PS

If you need a definition of WEAK SAUCE, look at those videos. Dude, that sucks. You gotta be smoking crack to enjoy that. And you say THAT is worth $600? Don't try to justify the sucktitude of the games with that anal-induced coma that you call a 360 visualizer.

IT'S A NEXT GEN SYSTEM!!! Make it 3D or something. Something that REALLY looks cool and new, not something that iTunes have been doing since forever.

And if I wasn't able to get mine reserved when I did, I would NOT be paying some huge sum of money to get mine... people buying 360s just to resell them at huge margins are no better than ticket scalpers and gasoline hoarders. If you buy one, hook it up and play the damn thing.

If it's a good product, why not?

I've been a Mac user since 1986. First Mac was a Mac Plus, and I HAVE never thought of Microsoft as some sort of enemy. Apple may be in competition with Microsoft, but we sure as hell aren't. I just don't understand this mentality.

I'm affraid it's the same mentality all the 'fan boys' seem to suffer from.
As a consumer I don't feel obligated to any hardware or company.

By utilising different companies hardware I get the best of all worlds.

I get the impression the people who rag on a specific brand over another do so simply because they can't afford both and need to justify / legitimise their purchase by slamming the competition.

Buy both and get over it

Too bad the Xsux 360 isn't that great of a "gaming" system.
The Dreamcast was good, but then...PS2 came out.

History will repeat itself.

Of course history will repeat itself. So what else is new. Dreamcast was good till the PS2 came out. PS2 was good till the Xbox came out. Xbox was good till the 360 came out. 360 will be good till the PS3 comes out. That's the way things work. It's called technological leapfrogging and it's the very reason NOT to wait for the next technological advance, weather it be in computers or gaming or whatever, for whatever you buy today will be antiquated within the year................including gaming consoles.

Piarco

When my 360 arrives, I'm going to give it a good chance to impress me. Like I've said before I've never owned a console (besides 1 month of PS1 ownership) and never been a great fan of console gaming, but to develop any real opinion on whether I like the 360 or not, I'm going to own it for at least a couple months. If I'm too much of an old PC gaming lag to give consoles a fair go, I'll sell it on - it'll be interesting finding out!

Congrats to those of you who bought a 360 to use it and not resell it on eBay.
I decided not to pre-order or stand in line for one, since there are so many great games for the current crop. I'm sure I'll pick one up eventually, but probably after the PS3 and Rev are out.

I got one!!! My friend's wife bought one to resell, and she decided to let me have it for 450 (wich isn't more than what it would be after taxes). So I went and got Call of Duty 2, and an extra controler. I go to pick it up later today. I'll be testing on my mom's new Sony 50" 3LCD projection tv this weekend. Huh? Tell ya what. Look at CoD2 on a 360 hooked up to an HD set and if ya then tell me that it doesn't look any better than a normal Xbox, than either they had it set up wrong and it was only showing at 480p on the HD set because they forgot to flip the switch on the connector, or there is something wrong with your eyes and you need glasses.

haha nice one!

I am glad that people here are buying to play and not buying to rip others off on ebay. With that said--to each is own.

I played this at Target and loved it. I am not a fanboy or girl for that matter of Apple. I could care less about Apple or MS. If someone has something that I want, I'll grab it. To date no notebook has touched the sleek design of the powerbook, so I bought the powerbook. Case closed.

I will probably grab the 360, I am not sure as I don't have much time for gaming especially with my studies and my job. I do intend on pre-ordering the ps3 though if I don't have the 360 by then. I pre-ordered the ps2 and it arrived the day before it hit the shelves. I sure did feel cool! But at the end of the day, I paid $100 more than most and mine doesn't work any better than theirs does.

Forget the fanboy crap. The 360 has worked flawlessly in the store I have played it on and that machine endures heavy abuse from customers so you gotta admit it's probably decent.

nimbus, there is no need to keep harping on. We know your "opinion". We know you're a fanby - so why don't you go into the other thread with people who think the whole xbox360 thing has gone to far. Most folks on this thread are interested in the 360 and how it performs.

That said.....

you are a fanboy,

1 Network adapter is included in the X360 unless you are going wireless.
2. Try to play 2 person on a pc
3. Pc games cost the same as console

You getting owned : Priceless.

Seriously. The Xbox 360 is an awesome piece of equipment. If you don't think so, it's your own godamn fault. Looks just like the regular xbox. LMFAO What a n00b.

Xbox actually has some incredible games. DOA on a PC? No. Halo 2 on a PC? No. PErfect Dark Zero on a PC? Nope. NHL 2k6? Nope.

There is a slew of games that both pc/mac and xbox/ps2/crappy nintendo system don't have from each other. But guess what? I just spent 400 bucks on an Xbox to get something that's 50 times more powerful than a PC at that price, and it's got games I actually care to play.

Nintendo's REV isn't gonna beat anything. Look at history. N64? Crap. Had about 12 good games, lost all of its support for disc media when Sony committed to the PSX instead. Gamecube? Still crap. No online play, very proprietary disc media and you couldn't even install your own playlists. Sad. Most long games came double disc.

Sony? PSX was awesome. Revolutionary. Pulled off what Sega could not. PS 2, still an awesome console. Lots of good games, network play (although not as good as XBL), came with DVD operations standard. What a great console and it was my first DVD player 4/5 years ago as with many others. Sony will turn around and provide us with a console in 2006 with Bluray DVD features, great games, and a completely rebuilt online experience. It will own the 360 in many ways, but the 360 is still a great machine.

Well guys, I guess this just proves that numbus here has NO idea what he's talking about.

720i ??? I never heard of 720i. The Xbox supports 480p, 720p AND 1080i.

The PS3 will support 1080p.

Nimbus, you have to get your p's and i's squared away. P means progressive and i means interlaced and there is a big difference between the two.

Wierd choice Sony! Especially since most HD-Ready sets dont support 1080p
I imagine most devlopers will use 720p or 1080i with the ps3 - or the machine will automatically scale (like the 360).

Although I am sure that there will be more HD sets that support 1080p by the time the PS3 is released, I do agree with you that most developers will use 720p/1080i and that the PS3 will do the scaling.......that is, unless you want your TV to do the scaling, if it's capable.

god, looks this thread went downhill to pure flaming...

1.microsoft has superb products: Mice and Excel.. sadly their Joypad department took a nose dive with the original Xbox Controller but they are recovering now

2.comparing Tekken and the dead or alive series and declaring "ownage" for either side: priceless
DoA: the boobs are too big for me , and i'm 22 and male..(aka. the Tomb Raider effect)
Tekken: even when i'm winning when playing at a friends house i'm still put of by some ridicolous 1 attack spaming which

i actually participated in some sort of contest where i can win a xbox360 with 3 games so i don't hate microsoft or the xbox360 _per se_ i just wouldn't put down that much money for it (sicne i don't like the pay for online thing..as said before they finally made a better pad)

(at the moment i'm looking for a new mouse and so far i narrowed it down to the new microsoft laser mouse gaming edition thing or putting some bucks more on the table and get a razor copperhead)

Oh that's because the PS3 is actually thinking about the future. Xbox 360 is too, but you won't get the "real" one until next year when they release it with bells and whistles, making this draft obsolete. Doesn't that just suck? They rush this out the door half finished just to get hype lovers to buy it, lol. And they fell for it. I wonder why you don't see any "original" games...only ports.

My name is "Nimbus" ok, Gayj?

Anyway, I'll stop. I gotta get ready for tomorrow. BLACK FRIDAY!! I'm sure some Xbox 360tards are gonna be at the stores. I gotta tell them the truth about that $1000 system that crashes when you look at it too hard. I'll help the kiddies get Gamecubes for Xmas^^. I'm sure the parents will be happy.
BTW, I work at Gamestop. Every parent that asks me about the system, I pull them to the side and tell them that its overly expensive and will break fast. In all, I stopped about 36 purchases and preorders. LOL. Tomorrow's gonna be a busy day.^^ I love my job. Gamecube ftw!!!

Haha, you tried to combat Clayj's calling you Nimby (which is perfectly acceptable, btw) by calling him Gayj. Thats clever   .

And if you work at GameStop, you should know this: you arent allowed to tell a customer something sucks. You cant give them your oppinion. You are required to tell them its good.

And you would be fired if they found out youre stopping someone from spending over $500 on an XBox 360 for a $100 gamecube (which is already outdated: Publishers dont like making games for it - and I own a GameCube.)

And finally, why do you care that people like the XBox 360? I have no interest in buying one, but I think its good people are buying it. And if someone got it for me, I'd open it up and play it all weekend. Calling people idiots for buying something is really stupid.

Not to diss whoever has bought one of these but I don’t see the big hype about these. I have played one at the local retail store around here. The controller is, I think the same as the previous one, and I don’t like it any better or worse. As far as the graphics they are good, but just as same as a beefed up Mac/PC, which it basically is. As far as everything else it doesn’t YET have that many titles and I am it sure will soon. But why the big hype right now about it? I don’t see the big deal about running out and blowing 400$ on a single console. Maybe when Halo3 comes out!

PGR3: freaking AWESOME... beautiful tracks and cars, awesome driving physics, cool music (including some CLASSICAL music! love racing a Lamborghini Gallardo while listening to Bach's Brandenburg Concerto), all around excellent game (10/10)

Madden 06: looks very pretty, but sadly missing a lot of stuff from the Xbox version... no challenges, no Madden commentary, limited camera angles (9/10 so far)

NHL 2K6: very nice gameplay, beautiful graphics, presentation could be better... where's EA's hockey game? (8.5/10)

Perfect Dark Zero: highly overrated... only played it for a few minutes so far, but it seems VERY cartoonish (7.5/10)

Call of Duty 2: Unbelieveably cool. Beautiful graphics, totally immersive experience, lots of fun to play (10/10)

Kameo: haven't opened it yet... (no rating yet)

Xbox 360 wireless controllers: take a little getting used to... shoulder buttons are new for the Xbox, and I keep having to think about reaching for them... but it's cool to be able to turn the 360 on and off using the controllers, and there is ZERO lag with them (unlike older wireless controllers I've played with) (9.5/10)

Xbox 360 packaging: very cool... Apple-quality packaging, including an Xbox window sticky (10/10)

Go on open Kameo :) its a great game.

Even though reviews are claiming it too short 6-10 hours, I personally dont have 60 hours to invest in a game, so 6 -10 hours quality gaming is great for me. The only games I've completed over the past year have been about that length. My shelves are full of half and less played games that I know I'll probably never ever finish.

Thanks for getting rid of Nimbus - he was really getting on my tits :D (fan boy behaviour & homophobia is for the insecure people who feel they need to legitimise / justify their purchases by dissing others).

I only have played 2 level of PDZ so i can't give you a in-depth review yet. The game has a certain artistic style that is really different from anything i've seen on console. It's hard to describe.

As far as the gameplay goes, it's a bit slower then halo2 or Unreal Tournament. There is no auto-aim, friction or anything of that nature to help you. This is why this game might not please everyone. It's a tough game and needs to invest more then 5 minutes to really get a feel for it.

As far as PGR3 is concern, it's the best racing game ever. Easy to pick up. 80% of all cars are unlock online, It's pure fun. You can't go wrong with PGR3.

The original Nintendo 64 version of Perfect Dark was amazing and incredible, way "ahead of its time." It recieved amazing critical review.

Therefore, its sequel on a more powerful platform was obviously going to be hyped a lot.

But do you really not like it? Its 'cartoonish' but has incredible gameplay, at least on the N64.

I am glad that people here are buying to play and not buying to rip others off on ebay. With that said--to each is own.

It's not "ripping somebody off" to sell a good at market price. Unless you think the grocery store is ripping off consumers by selling eggs for $0.79/carton.

Rip others off? How is that ripping others off if that's what they are willing to pay? It's called a free market for a reason. You sell product at what the market will bear. No ones getting ripped off if that's what they are willing to pay and that they fully realize what kind of mark-up is being made.

Now do I think that it's bad form to buy product and resell it when gamers have spent all night in line to buy one to play.......?? You betcha.

So does Apple and any other successful business.

You design and sell product for as much of a profit as your target market will bear......or.....you sell at a lower profit but make it up on volume. It's called making a profit. That's what business is all about. In a publicly traded company like Microsoft or Apple, as an example, their responsibility is to make as much money for their sharholders as they can while maintaining long term good will with their customers.

Of course MS thinks like me on this issue. Any business worth their salt would think the same way.

And now we've moved more off-topic than I care for. I know how business is made. Let me try and steer this back:

The ebayed 360 are a ripoff. You said that they aren't, I say they are. Sure, some may "Choose" to pay an extra 625% over the MSRP, that doesn't mean they didn't get ripped. Some people came in and sucked the already thin supply, and you had no choice but to buy from the resellers [Ebay]...

Its a rip.

GFLPraxis
Nov 24, 2005, 09:53 PM
I disagree. You must remember that with the shortages, people had two choices:

1) Wait in line 10 hours.
2) Pay 3-4 times retail price and save the time.

You must remember that these people they are buying it off of waited in line for hours upon hours, usually in below-freezing weather. While I think the people paying this much money are stupid because they could wait a month and get it at retail price, they're not getting ripped off, because due to the rarity they are worth that much.

It's just like that old Beanie Baby craze years ago. For those that don't remember, every single one sold for five dollars in retail stores; yet some of them had a market price of as high as $5000, everywhere else, due to their rareness. There were even magazines that listed what the estimated price of each one was, despite the fact that in a retail store they were five dollars.

Rarity makes it worth more than retail price.

clayj
Nov 24, 2005, 10:06 PM
What really irks me about this whole situation is that so many people took days off, sat out in the rain and the cold, and then DIDN'T get 360s because of retail idiots who decided things like:

- "We don't care how long you've been sitting here; we're doing a raffle."
- "We don't have enough units for sale because we've decided to buy them all ourselves (or let our family members buy them)."
- "We let people put them on LAYAWAY, rather than selling to those who are HERE."

I ordered mine back in August, and I guess I should consider myself fortunate that EBGames decided to fulfill orders in the order in which they were received (mine was one of the first... I ordered within 10 minutes of getting e-mail that they were accepting orders).

But people, don't blame Microsoft for not making enough units available... sure, it would be nice if they could have more available (I have no doubt that they want to), but the blame for the current situation falls on two groups: retailers who didn't have consistent policies for managing high demand for limited supply (raffles are BS... if I'm the first one at the store once they allow a line to form, I should be first to get a unit), and those who've bought units PURELY for the purposes of reselling them. As I've said, these people are nothing but opportunists. Microsoft isn't earning an extra dime from all of these 360 scalpers; the money is going to THEM, not Microsoft.

I ain't giving up my 360... I did what I needed to do (and all that I SHOULD have needed to do) to get one on launch day. But I do sympathize with those who got shafted.

Excellent post, clay.

I preordered my 360 back in June and have been enjoying it. No problems at all. So far, I've enjoyed playing TW06 and COD2.

I waited in line for 16 hours for another Premium and sold it on eBay for $2550. Not bad for a 16 hour investment.

...people buying 360s just to resell them at huge margins are no better than ticket scalpers and gasoline hoarders. If you buy one, hook it up and play the damn thing.

No way dude. It's just good business sense: buy low, and sell as high as you can!

If I had gotten on the ball, I would have camped out to get a Xbox 360 the day of its release and immidiatly would have sold it on eBay. I would then wait until the craze died down and then would buy my own.

I plan on doing just this when the PS3 comes out. The way I see it, if people want to spend $1200+ on a game system, by all means let them!

You were the first person to mention MS and mention that they think just like me on this issue. I was just responding to your comment, so if we moved off topic, it was you that led it there.

Ok...........back on topic. Again, I say it is NOT a rip off. If someone "Chooses" to pay 625% over MSRP, how can you say that the person got ripped off?He CHOSE to do it, and knew full well how much he was paying over the standard retail price. If he DIDN'T know that he was paying that much over retail, than I'd agree with you in saying that he got ripped off, but that's not the case here.

And when you say that he had no choice but to buy said product from EBAY, I disagree with that statement also. Of course he had a choice. I was one of those that stood out in line at Best Buy and didn't get one. Did I have a choice? Sure..........and my choice was to NOT go on Ebay and pay those outrageous prices. My choice was to wait till the next shipments arrive.

GFLPraxis
Nov 25, 2005, 01:38 PM
Exactly. It's the market price. It's not like you're tricking someone into paying 625% more than retail; thats the standard market price, and they're choosing to buy it for that price from you. Everyone else is selling it for that much.

I hope you've had a chance to play PDZ a few more minutes. Your next impressions should change drastically by the time you have invested an hour or so, preferably with an FPS-loving friend (doesn't hurt to have one) playing co-op, allthough I'd be surpised if it took that long.

I too rated PDZ around 7.5 after playing only part-way through the training mission.

Oh, and if "cartoonish" is an undesirable quality, I recommend returning Kameo unopened. I downloaded the demo directly to the 360 and loved its cartoony look blended in with some very realistic environmental textures.

However I completely agree with your nano on PGR3.

I disagree. It's an OKAY game. I've beat it already, and it lacks a lot of what I expect, especially in the control areas.

I'd give it what the reviewrs did, 7.5/10.

CoD2 was amazing. 10/10 for sure. Although, I would have liked to have been able to peek around corners like in Metal gear/PDZ. Other than that, it was great.

I'm waiting for DOA 4 to come out. It'll be great, I'm sure. The console itself has never given me any problems, no bugs, no overheating, or anything of the sort. The interface is awesome, the simple fact that I can access lots of controls in-game, or select to go back to the dashboard in-game is especially nice. Customizing is nice as well.

And to anyone calling the 360 "crap" or saying something else ridiculous about it: DIE. Seriously, go kill yourself for being so damn ignorant. This is the most powerful console to date, and for the price you cannot get a PC even CLOSE to the specs on it.

If you have actually sat down, used the interface and played through a couple of games, then you're entitled to say it's not worth it. Until then, STHU, you trolling ogres.

First, The Xbox and 360 are the only products by Microsoft that don't really suck. Second, if you hate MS just to hate them, you should just kill yourself for being a rabid fanboy loser. No, seriously, go slit your wrists or something. It's people like you that give other people a bad impression of the rest of us.

Obviously, you're improving the impression people get of MacRumors by telling someone to slit their wrists. Impressive.

Getting back on topic... I received my Toslink-RCA digital converter this weekend (it was waiting for me when I got home today)... now have Xbox 360 running in glorious Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound and 1080i HD. :)

Isn't that great, clayj?

I have the same setup and it is great playing Condemned at night. Scary as hell, but definitely worth the scare.

Can the 360 do more than 5.1? Like 7.1? Does it have DTS and Dolby? If yes, impressive.

You got one nice setup there, clayj.

Does anyone have Quake 4 for the 360? I hear its really good...

Xbox actually has some incredible games. DOA on a PC? No. Halo 2 on a PC? No. PErfect Dark Zero on a PC? Nope. NHL 2k6? Nope.

You say it as if they can't be done on a PC. DoA and Halo 2 can be done on a current gen PC no problem. They are not graphical powerhouses and considering the Xbox is really nothing more than a PC with the power of household PCs circa 2002, it can be done easily. Perfect Dark Zero? I'm not so sure on that one, I haven't played it enough to REALLY get a feel for the graphics. I doubt they could to the texture work as nicely as it is on the 360, but they could get pretty close.

The 360 is a really awesome console. The games are fun and impressive (especially PDZ, Kameo, CoD2, and PGR3!) and the enhanced features of LIVE are AWESOME. It's so immersive. I'm jealous of my friend and I want one NOW:(

Edit: for those wondering about PDZ: the single player is very, VERY meh. The AI is EXTREMELY stupid (even on Perfect Agent, haven't played Dark Agent(highest difficulty) and the story is AWFUL. It's still FUN, but just kind of bleh. In comparison to past RARE games, Goldeneye was much, MUCH better. Multiplayer in PDZ is AMAZING! It's just like PD on 64 and Goldeneye, which is great because Goldeneye is my favorite multiplayer FPS game (Halo can suck it). Nothing beats the straight-up fun and easily customizable Rare multiplayer experience. They should just make a pure FPS deathmatch game, ala Quake 3 Arena.

I agree with PDZ, although Halo 2's multiplayer owns it, IMO.

However, DOA and other titles cannot "easily" be done for PC's. Why? Cos they haven't been. The 1st Halo, yes. But anything I really want to play is on console, and the 360 is far more powerful than hosuehold PC's of 2002. It's far more powerful than any PC you could buy right now for the same cash. The processors alone are brand new PowerPC processors.
