G3 B&W 400Mhz
4x 256mb PC100 - 1024mb
36gig Ultra160 Fujitsu 15,000RPM SCSI drive as startup
40gig ATA drive as second HD for data
8x Sony internal DVD +/-R burner
Rage 128 PCI video

The addition of the 36gig 15K scsi drive has made all the difference in the world. Its not even the same computer. Its insane 🙂 Well insane for a G3. Are there some file system benchmark tests I can do? Maybe some software that does drive speed tests?

I was just given the same system although definately not as spiffy as yours. Can you boot from a 3rd party dvd drive in that system? I want to toss my old NEC dvd-rw drive in it
 
Yes I was able to boot with the aftermarket DVD drive. I pulled it out of my older 2Ghz Pentium4 machine. Its a Sony. I chose that one because the button lined up perfectly with the flip down door. I think I might go on ebay and find a used PCI card that would be better than the Rage 128. I guess the best for this box would be the Radeon 7000 PCI.

Actually the Radeon 9200pci is a much better card, w/128mb of vram and a much faster gpu.......

I got one for ~$75 not too long ago 🙂
