Any way to shut off or minimize the animations?

I'm starting to feel that all these animated transitions is a bit too much for me. I'm also wondering if it would help battery life, as my iPhone 5 is draining considerably faster than before.

What animations are there exactly besides the zooming when you open and close an app? I'm not being sarcastic, I'm curious cuz I can't notice anything else.
