I've got a 4S and the wife has a 4.
Does upgrading to iOS 7 have any drawbacks? I.e. performance or certain features not available?

Thanks

Can't speak to the 4 but I put it on my son's 4s and seems to be working fine so far.

It runs fine on my 4S. Some little lags and stuttering here and there but nothing I can't stand.

Define "smooth". A lot of people are saying the animation framerate is bad.

From what I have seen, people are not complaining about the animation framerate, they are complaining about the animation duration (and the fact that they are non-interruptible.)

Running perfectly on my 4S. Hearing about more issues with the 4.

Who the F uses the 4 series ? Apple shouldn't even updated these dinosaurs!

Running nicely on my 4S, however it is KILLING my battery life. 2 hours of moderate use (a little podcast playing and occasional email checking) takes it from 100% to 55%). I'm fine because I'm gonna upgrade my phone soon anyway, but if you're sticking with the 4S for a while, you may want to read up on the battery issue or wait for an iOS update.

Works fine on my 4. But maybe my standards are low.

It's run well enough on my 4S to use everyday no problem. Some stuttering/jerkiness randomly in animations. The 5 is noticeably smoother.

Nice attitude.

Updated my daughter's 4 last night and it seems to run fine. Certainly good enough for her.

4S dinosour is still selling on Apples website. I don't see iPhone5, where is it? Maybe they discontinued it due to scratchgate or bendgate, I don't know.

Btw, the 4S is running iOS7 almost smooth as iPhone5.

iOS 7 is trash on my iPhone 4.

Animations are slow and lagging
imessage is slow and laggy
good luck changing wallpapers
Transitions in an out of the multitasking card view are slow

Safari is fast
and my apps seem to be working fine

It's working fine on my 4S. The battery took a big hit, but I turned off the Background App Refresh and that seemed to help it a lot.

According to CNET, the iPhone 4 loading the camera app on iOS 7 is almost 200% faster than in iOS 6. This suggests to me that it's a worthwhile upgrade, even for older devices. Microsoft have accused Apple of slowing down older devices with new iOS releases in the past, however there is absolutely no proof of this; it will probably make things a little faster if anything.

Isn't there already a multitude of threads regarding performance on these devices? The search function would reveal that ;)

Running fine on my iPhone 4.

It is a bit laggy but not worse than ios6 was. As someone mentioned taking photos is much much faster than it was with ios6.

Reset my iPhone w/o iTunes then updated OTA to iOS 7 and then reset it again.

I have to say, I'm impressed iOS 7 hasn't made the iPhone 4 unusable compared to updating the iPad 1 to iOS 5 which caused it to slow and crash significantly. I feared iOS 7 would totally make the iPhone 4 unusable. Its slightly slower than before, but no crashes and the animations while slower don't stutter.

Passcode
Entering a passcode is a little bit faster now, mainly to do with how the numbers are shaped now. iOS 6 tight square-spaced numbers made it harder to enter, its much easier now with iOS7's circled and more spaced out icons. Icons appearing takes a second longer due to the new animation.

Notification Center/Control Center
No lag what so ever. Yes, it doesn't have the blur effects newer devices have. Spotlight to me is better than iOS 6. There was a little bit of lag when you swiped to the left on iOS 6.

Core Apps
This is when I begin to notice a little slow down.

Phone, Mail, Messages, Photos, Weather, Clock, Notes, Reminders, and Game Center I noticed a 2-3 second delay. Game Center was by far the worst, took about 5 seconds to load.

Safari, Music, Camera, Maps, Videos, iTunes Store, App Store, and Settings I felt were either able to be a little faster or at least maintain its loading time considering all the new features added.

Battery Life (charged it over night, started using it at 7:30 AM)
100% - 7:30 AM
50% - 3:16 PM

iPhone Usage Data (Time Since Last Full Charge)
Usage - 3 hours 23 minutes
Standby - 7 hours 38 minutes

-Wi-Fi and 3G turned on
-Bluetooth turned off
-Brightness set at 50%

Apps
I only downloaded apps that supported iOS 7 and had newer UI elements. Most of them worked fine, Facebook had the worst lag and took a good 6-8 seconds to load. Evernote, OpenTable, Pocket, Shazam, and TED were fine.

It's working fine on my iPhone 4. It runs at about the same speed as 6.1.3, which was always fast and smooth on my phone. Apps take some time to load as usual but all of the animations are smooth.

Near the bottom of this page there is a quick video of the two iOS running on the same phone. I can see the difference, can you?
