Is itunes automatically downloading songs when you listen to them?

I had a fresh install and about 1,000 songs in the cloud. I didn't download any to my iPhone. I noticed on my usage that I used 300GB worth of data strictly from the music app. Is iTunes automatically downloading these songs? I can't tell if I'm playing these songs off my iPhone or from the cloud.

Sounds like you have iTunes match and yes that is how it works.
