...and a set of snowflakes, since it's Winter... ;)

BTW, just a little tip: TinkerTool (http://www.bresink.de/osx/TinkerTool.html) lets you change which format screenshots are saved to. On most screenshots of desktop images jpeg weighs much less than png. :)

DISCOMUNICATION
Dec 18, 2005, 07:02 PM
Just by ur desktop I can tell you have a DELL (I think),
Nope. Gateway 6400 Server with dual 1Ghz PentiumIII's. Damn it's slow. I originally bought it 4 or 5 years ago because it had dual processors, dual SCSI controllers built into the motherboard, 7 PCI slots, 4 harddrive bays (only 2 pairs of special rails though  ), and it was cheap. Just waiting on the MacTels. Although I personally think the PowerPC is the superior hardware.
Encode movies,
Not really. Maybe if I had a Mac  . I really hate turning on my PC it's so big and loud and ugly (the door that covers the drives fell off a couple of weeks ago). I mainly watch stuff on my region free DVD player or one of my 2 PSTwo's (Black US model and White Japanese model).
are a photographer
I wish. I don't even own a camera. I tried animating the construction of the Stata center at M.I.T., a Frank Gehry design, but it took to long to photograph and I lost interest. I'm actually an illustrator. Or at least I used to be. If you look at my profile under occupation it says "Art School Dropout".
Have Verizon DSL,
Again, I wish. No, it's dail-up. We actually don't get DSL in my neighborhood. And I live in a major metropolitan area. Just minutes from Harvard Sq. There is actually a Comcast office only a few blocks from my house though.
and Windows XP
Now you are actually correct (unfortunately :( ). I'm really getting tired of Winbloz and XP's Fisher-Price my-first-operating-system interface. And that reinstalling the OS is the best solution to a lot of problems.
Wonder if the MacTels will actually be available in January. Or if they will even be all that impressive (more graphics cards that are below the minimum system requirements of most software). If they are not I might just go for a PowerPC system. I was originally considering a MacMini just because it would look cool lined up with my 6 game consoles. I really want the space saving features and power of an iMac G5. If I get a laptop it will probably be Mactel. And I just can't justify the cost of the bottom of the line DualCore G5s. The price of the quad, while expensive, makes perfect sense though.
Think I'm gonna buy a Samsung 940mw regardless of what happens at MacWorld though. HDCP with NTSC, PAL, and SECAM compatability is pretty unique. Although I think we are going to see a lot more PC monitors with HDCP in 2006 and LCD tv's with the ATSC tuners built in. I will buy something nice next year :D .

Well, since Tiger wouldn't install on my friend's B&W G3 (he needs a new Combo Drive), I decided to go ahead and put it back on my eMac. I missed it! Tiger is so much faster than Panther, I have to say. I also missed Spotlight and Dashboard!

Anyway, more Christina Ricci. :)

What I did is set is as a screensaver using SaveHollywood (http://s.sudre.free.fr/Software/SaveHollywood.html), and then used BackLight (http://freshsqueeze.com/products/freeware/) to set a screensaver on the desktop.

Hope this helps

Ouchie, some of the stuff said about her are really harsh..

"Kirsten Dunst says that Spider-Man 3 will probably be her last stint playing whatever the hell it is she plays in those movies. The laughably delusional troll says:
"Unless they pay me an exorbitant amount of money, this will be my last one. If there is more of a story to tell and (director) Sam Raimi is on board, and everyone is, then maybe. But this is what I am signed to do - three.""

It does seem that guy has a bit of a personal problem with her aswell though.. constantly going on about her teeth etc. But some of the stuff she allegedly did is pretty deserved.. called the reporter a bitch behind her back, hahah..

Thanks for the link, anything else you have would be cool (if anything). Very interesting.

I think for the next Desktop thread we should make it compulsory to post a picture of your desktop and a link for the wallpaper.

It would make all these link requests redundant and we'd get more actual desktop pictures in the thread. That and nobody would need to repeatedly quote previous posts with the images asking for a link so all the posts would be different.

I agree. Also, if there's no link to the original, that would mean either:

a) this is a homemade pic and the user doesn't want to share it for whatever reason
b) the user doesn't remember where he/she got it

so there would be no reason for asking

I'm pretty sure that's an app called Clutter. I used to use it for getting album covers for iTunes, but it would sometimes get covers that were too small, so I just find them manually now.

It took me about an hour to install it. I have created one partition for it before doing a clean install of Tiger with Disk Utility.

This Ubuntu Linux, it is nice, I like it too. The worst part of installing it is the formating the drive/volumes as well as creating new small partition for boot loader "yaboot". It have also dicovered that linux would take advantage of having a separate partion just for swap files. But since this is only for messing around with Linux I haven't bothered with it.

My friend had it on his PC, but we couldn't get his USB Wireless Adapter to work with it. It's the only Linux distro that I've actually got to play around with. It's pretty good, from what I seen of it.

I don't think so, which sucks. I hope they will get it working soon though. From what I have read Broadcom (a company that makes Airport card) hasn't released the Linux driver or the specs to Linux cummunity to write the driver for the card.

Mmm the wonders of photoshop boob enhancements ;)

Anyways, as for the guy with Ubuntu on his powerbook, I ran it for a while on my IBM Thinkpad a few months ago, and it was a great distro of Linux. Very user friendly (as far as Linux goes), and very nice.

I reccommend switching from Gnome to KDE though... I believe it's called Kubuntu and available after adding a few web addresses to your apt-get library.
