Never, try setting the itunes "use error correction when reading audio cds" in the importing tab. Under advanced.
Yes I have had that too, it swallows it up thinks about it then... thinks about it a bit more before wanting it ejected, or even ejecting it for me.... 🙂

I had a whole stack of Imation CDs that were rejected. I threw them away and now use only Verbatim or Sony and have not had a problem since.

I've had it happen with some dirty CDs. But it is also a fairly common failure mode for some of the powerbook superdrives. I've had one superdrive go bad and for a couple of weeks it would reject CDs randomly. Then after a while it would reject all CDs (including blank media, burnt CDs and DVDs and pressed CDs and DVDs).
So you might want to pay attention to your drive over the next month or so to see if the problem becomes worse or whether it is limited to this single CD.

I've found two commercial discs that my PB won't read. One is Metallica's And Justice for All... (at least my copy) and my father's copy of "Count Basie: At the Sands". I have no idea why they don't get read 😕

Ah, there is nothing more annoying than putting a CD/DVD in your machine that it wont read, but continues to try and do so... freezing the Finder for minutes until it decides to give up.
The DVD rental place across the street from my apartment seems to put some sort of sticker on the underside of some of their DVDs, right around the whole in the middle. It isn't covering the readable surface of the disk, but it makes my PowerBook not like them one bit. When I put such a disk in it tries 3 times (if memory serves) to read it, then just spits it out. So far I've been unable to watch both The Assassination (with Sean Penn) and Supersize Me, because of these blasted stickers (so far, the failure rate is 2/5). I think I might send them an email about it actually (as it's an automated affair which are very common in mainland Europe)...
