Software for screen clip video?

I am doing a project for one of my college classes. I would like to show a video of my desktop in action. I will be using a certain program that would be neat to be shown as a video. Are there any programs that record desktop activity?

snapzprox is a little expensive, isn't it? $70, come on. Isn't there a free version that does just the 10% of what snapzprox does (the 10% that I really want/need)??

I tried movie grab but it is sluggish, god why cant FRAPS! come out for the mac!!!!!?????
