I'm not a regular in the music forum so I don't know if this is the right place to post recommendations so feel free to move etc. as required. Also I've done a search but couldn't find a reference, but again move delete if this thread is redundant.

Arctic Monkeys - I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor

I thought I'd bring this British band to the attention of MR members the world over. I've had the single for a while but saw them on BBC's 'Later with Jools Holland' tonight and it prompted this thread.

I don't have a great reputation music-wise but these guys have an infectious energy I couldn't resist.

Watch the video on their site (http://www.dominorecordco.com/site/minisites/arctic_monkeys/am.html)

Thanks! I liked the video. They've got a great sound, I think. You've got me interested.

Nice bit of music there defiantly.

they seemed to have blown up just now, everywhere is like Arctic Monkeys this, that, but i honestly think they are over-rated. I mean look i don't think they're bad by any means, i enjoy their work, but it's just like average. Sounds exactly like The Hot Hot Heat and that sorta alternative, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but they don't do much new for popular music right now. That's my take on TAM. ;)

Artic Monkeys are huge now, but I wonder if they are going to suffer the same problem as The Streets.

By which I mean, they have produced an album of stories and tales of people and events in and around the Sheffield / Rotherham area and have really captured every day life of the working classes in that area.

I lived near Rotherham/Sheffield and even though that was some years ago, all the songs really do bring back memories and ring true.

This was much like Mike Skinners band 'The Street', putting the same tales & stories of the people in that area of London.

But after a first album, the effect lessens and a retread of old ground begins to sound very dated. I think they could find the Second Album very hard....

I'm glad they are doing well though :)

they came out w/ an EP about a month ago, immediately grabbed my attention. now with a full album, they definitely don't disappoint. hard to believe they're only 19 - 20 yrs old.

Couldn't get passed looking at the girl on the main page. :p

But really, Not bad of a band for the fact that I have only heard three songs. To bad in the video there was not an actual live audience, or if there was one then the director could have shown them.

Me three. They're good, but when the media hypes them up you expect 'OMFG this will change the music landscape and my life forever'. Then unfortunately, anything they do seems...meh.

... very similar to what was going on in the UK back in the '70's and '80's before make-up and hairspray took over??? yep... I agree.

Yeah, I sort of agree.
I think they're good, possibly even really good, but they're over blown up by the media.
Too much hype can hurt a good band.
At least from my perspective, this happened with Artic Monkeys.

And it's already been murdered by the Sugababes
A good band but I'm not sure how long they'll last. As someone else pointed out they're in the same boat as The Streets, although his second album was great.

Street's new single BLOWS !!! He try's singing - badly out of tune/key everything. Lyrics used to be more like poetry, these are like sugarbabe castoffs.....

What kind of accent is that in the video?

Seriously, you know I am obsessed about the whole British thing - south or north?

North. Sheffield.

North. Sheffield.

Or Sheffy as it's know to the locals. Though I think a couple of the guys are from Rottherham - a town a short distance away from Sheffy..

a Donny accents is similar (Doncaster)

Basically SOUTH YORKSHIRE...

Hull (East Yorkshire) & Leeds/Bradford (West Yorkshire) & York (North Yorkshire) have all similiarities in accent, but they are slightly different.. If your from around there you would know the difference....

If your from around there you would know the difference....That's right. You can normally tell what part of Yorkshire someone is from by their accent, although they generally sound indistinguishable to the untrained ear. In a similar fashion I find it hard to tell the difference in accents from down South – I wouldn't have a clue if someone was from, say, Kent or Essex simply by hearing their accent.

iGary – there's a bit more information about the various Yorkshire dialects here, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yorkshire_dialect_and_accent) if you're that obsessed. ;)

Arctic Monkeys = Emperors New Clothes. Indie Ordinaire. Right Place At The Right Time. Give Them Three Albums And They Will Be Gone.

Have all the young pop pickers du jour suddenly got tired of Franz Ferdinand then?

Saw them at the point in Dublin before christmas and wasn't bowled over. Their new album just wasn't as good as the debut...

(Franz Ferdinand that is)..
