Selling Mid-2011 11" Air 1.6Ggz buying mid-2013 13" Air 1.3Ghz worth it?

I'm considering selling my 11" Mid 2011 Air and upgrading the screen. I'll be getting a 2013 13" Air.

Performance and feature wise is it worth it? I do have to give up clock speed. The 13" Mid 2013 Air is 1.3Ghz and my 2011 is 1.6Ghz both will have 4 gigs of ram and 128 Gig SSD'd.

Go for it. The clock speed may be slower, but these Haswell chips are more efficient. You'll also get better Wi-Fi ability and much better battery life.

Drive performance has increased as well with the PCIe interface vs SATA. Also, the 256GB from what I have learned recently has faster read access than the 128GB SSD. Though, not sure if the difference would be really noticed by the yourself.

Yeah, what everyone said on here is correct. I've had every iteration of the MBA since 2011. The only thing that is missed was your current model supports 1 Thunderbolt display. 2012+ MBA will support 2.

The 2013 MBA will give you USB 3 and your 2011 MBA only has USB 2. This is a pretty major upgrade by itself.

I went the other way, from a 2011 13" MBA to a 2013 11" MBA and am really happy. My 2011 was i5/4gb/256gb and my 2013 is i7/8gb/512gb. IIRC, geekbench scored this model about 30% faster than the old one. It definitely renders video faster, latency in Logic Pro dropped from ~12ms to ~8ms.

I don't know how much each of the improvments contributed to this increase, but suspect that blazing fast 512gb SSD on my 2013 machine had a lot to do with it.

OTOH, if you just do web browsing, MS Office, basic Photoshop type stuff then you may not notice much real world difference.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did or are you trying to sell it for? I have the same model, came across your post and now I'm curious.

All good points. It's the new PCIe SSD that giving that blazing speed.

I also want to point out that HD3000 when used to watch YouTube kicks the fan a lot. The HD4000 and HD5000 is very quiet.

Bit off topic, but what machine do you find yourself using more, your 15 retina or your Air?

I've had the 2011 MBA 11" and 13" for one year since I liked them both and I realized I prefer the 13".

I've had the 2012 MBA 13" and later bought a 2012 RMBP 15" and found I prefer the retina more. It took a while to adjust to the weight but its worth it.

I now have a 2013 MBA 13" and kept the 2012 RMBP 15" and found I prefer the retina more. The battery life is very nice for the MBA though.
