I laughed even harder when she did it the second time. Drunk guy: "Huh? Wha? <clunk>" :D
By the way, w_parietti22, I don't think that Air Force One was hit with a nuke last year--"just" a regular air-to-air missile. But I agree that this part of the plot is a bit too similar.

If everyone on the show thought the way you do it wouldn't be called 24 it would be more like 15 or 10. Maybe that will be how they solve the 24 movie problem. The characters will be a lot smarter when condensed into a 2 hour movie.

Why randomly would Miles want to help the president? Especially after he killed someone and committed treason.
They left Cloe alone because she is very trustworthy, probably one of the most. No one thought Miles was dumb enough to want to help a traitor.

That CGI during the plane landing sequence was pretty bad. There was one shot where it looked like it was from a video game. At least it's a step up from the plane crash in season 2 though.

how did the tape get erased. magnets? When Miles was talking to Chloe there was something flashing in his right hand when it was next to the recorder. I'm assuming that was erasing the recording.
The question now is, what do they use as evidence? From the previews, Jack is trying to find this group that's been in touch with the President, but also Aaron and Martha know what really happened, so there's still that angle.
I can't believe nothing was pulled off of the recorder before Miles got in there.

finally this is on itunes!
you think he would have made a back up right away...hmm i wonder what that device wasI was wondering myself what kind of questions the writers/producers come up with about these things. I mean really, their audience is generally pretty intelligent, but once in awhile you just have to go WTF were they thinking when they did that.
For example, Jack carries around exploding SmartCards, but can't copy a friggin' recording to his PDA.
Also, the airplane is "flying over the desert" according to the Admiral, making it a good target, yet when they go to land it's as if they're over Las Vegas or something.
The President maintains a loaded weapon in his private office at a vacation retreat. Seems a little odd.
In other news, I was glad to see Sec. Heller was going to be alright, although that seems more like a feel-good side note than anything important to the story line.

you think he would have made a back up right away...hmm i wonder what that device was
On alt.tv.twenty-four (http://groups.google.com/group/alt.tv.twenty-four/) someone mentioned that Miles probably degaussed it with a magnet, but that in order for that to work, the device couldn't have been solid state / flash memory, it would have had to be magnetic. Also, Chloe's HD should have crash or exhibited some kind of symptoms. Apparently bringing a magnetic field near a flash-based memory device does nothing--if true, that's good to know.
I gotta say, the writers have really mangled this part of the plot.

If Jack would have made a backup, the place to do it would have been in the bank or shortly thereafter. Since he got on the plane and hijacked it I assume that he didn't make a backup. Now the question is WHY DIDN'T he do that? And why is it perfectly logical for everyone after the recording to assume that it is the only copy?

I wasn't really a 24 fan before this season. If something better was on opposite it I would watch that instead, but this season really got me hooked.
I think the writers have a great opportunity next season to change the formula. It's doesn't have to be about stopping a threat. It could just be about staying alive. And I don't mean just Jack’s escape from China. They could have him escape or be traded (remember "Your too valuable to kill.") long before next season begins. Maybe he just goes rogue in some third world nation. Or he gets traded for something he would rather die than let happen and he spends all next season trying to set the wrong things right. The door is wide open. Hope the writers take this chance and experiment.

The secret society guys always show up at the last minute each season then we never see them again. I think the only seasons there weren't shodow society guys at the end were season 1 and which ever season Chase was in. The other 2 seasons there was always some one on a phone somewhere ordering a contingency plan. Like when David Palmer shook that woman's hand and got sick.

1. Henderson is alive. They had a shot of him at the end of the first hour that seemed pointless if he were dead. They have the witness with the sub engineer now all they have to do is conveniently lose the body.
2. Henderson will be involved with Jacks rescue next season. As will Agent Pierce, and possibly the return of Chase. I don't see Curtis getting too involved, as much as he can kick butt he plays be the rules too much.
3. The puppet masters will also be involved. Some sneaky trick that is designed to screw China. Henderson will clue in the Chinese Government and they'll be forced to release Jack to stop the puppet masters.
All of my predictions are guaranteed wrong or your money back....
and the obvious rant of the week:
WTF Jack, a chinese officer tells you your daughter is on the phone and it's patched through to the abandoned warehouse with no windows and you don't suspect a trap after everything else that happened today? Heck, you even know that there are co-conspirators with the president, and you non-chalantly walk into the abandoned warehouse? to take a phone call on a land line? Anyone and their brother on 24 has access to encrypted/untraceable cell phones and they had to use a land line? What are you an idiot?........
Ok I'm done ranting now....

I've thought about it, and I think the only way to resolve the Jack/China situation is a prisoner exchange (think James Bond - Die Another Day). If Jack escapes, he'll still be hunted, and that won't be good. So a known Chineese terrorist is captured by CTU who sets up an exchange for Jack... has to be CTU because the US most likely wouldn't go for it. The terrorists plan to pay back America and we start all over again.
BTW... season 2 was THE best season.

Watch the Sopranos of course!
I wasnt highly impressed with this season of 24, i agree with the poster that said why would jack go in to an abondoned building to answer a call when they have all the secret mobile tech etc. I felt like the ending was rushed and they spent a lot of time overdeveloping the presidential fault plot, 24 still reamins my 2nd favorite TV show (Sopranos being #1), hopefully next season has more to impress than this one.

Since when was Milo Chloe's ex? Milo was season one, Chloe appeared in season three.

Except the guy who played 'Andre Drazen' is with Aaron in the helicopter. I'm looking forward to the real season six prequel.

Edited, I go the character names mixed - Morris/Milo. Yet to watch season 1 & 2.

Nah it's too early. There's no genuine Season 6 stuff to go on other than the Milo Pressman confirmation. It'll be time soon though :)
I'm so proud of starting this one. :p

So it's still too early (http://24trailer.com/) to start a season 6 thread, but a lot of deatails about the comming season are begining to surface. James Cromwell is Jacks dad (http://www.canmag.com/news/4/3/5263). Wayne Palmer is President and the series jumps ahead 2 years again (http://smallscreen.monstersandcritics.com/article_1208792.php/Two-night_January_premier_set_for_%6024%60). So is it technically 2010 in the story now?
Oh and I don't think anyone should be starting a season 6 thread until that counter (http://24trailer.com/) hits 0 in 3 days.

I've said it before, and I'll stick by it until proven wrong that Jack will not be "rescued" from the Chinese. If he escapes, he will continue to be hunted until he's either a)recaptured or b)dead. So if he's not dead (ie: the series doesn't end) he's recaptured and we're right back where we started.
So I assume then, that there's only one way out of the current story line and that is prisoner exchange. Think about it. The US gov't (or rogue CTU) gives a high-level Chinese terrorist in exchange for Jack. After the exchange, we find out that there's already a plot in place with said terrorist taking the lead. So Jack comes back and saves the day. While being freed from pursuit of the Chinese gov't. This scenario establishes the plot for Season 6 while creating a way for Jack not to have to worry about the Chinese.
Either that, or the season will start with the exchange already having taken place sometime between Seasons 5 and 6. But I'm sure that we'll get some details as to how it went down and what has happened in the past 2 years.

OK, that's several posts (some have been removed) with the same "24 Season 6" countdown link. Let's just assume people can click on it themselves - we don't need any more updates, K?

I've been told by a local home theater store employee that a federal mandate exists requiring FOX and all other network broadcasts to offer HD (everywhere?) by the end of this year. Does anyone know if this is correct?
I live in Springfield, MO and have Mediacom HD cable. Right now the only networks we have in HD are NBC and ABC. I've called Mediacom and they're clueless... but does anyone know if FOX (and CBS) is required to offer HD by January?
We got lucky when they added ABC just in time for LOST... now I need FOX for 24!

Are you sure he wasn't talking about over the air broadcasts and not cable. The mandate is now 2009, but it used to be sometime around this year. At least that was what I read in an article 6 years ago. I don't think the FCC has any control over cable.
And I apologize for the pointless multiple posts.

It is just over the air, you will have to call your cable co and ask them but they are not required to carry it.
Fox as a network is in HD now but the affiliate is different, they are required to have the digital signal but that doesn't mean that the cable provider has to carry it.

Season 6 looks to be interesting, So they want to sacrifice Jack, and it appears that Chloe will have a bigger role this season.

They stress the sacrifice Jack thing so much, it is very likely it won't happen, IMO... :p

Windows Media Component? I guess I'll have to wait till they broadcast it during the game. At least it will be in HD at 24 inches then. After all my talk about starting the Season 6 thread I really don't want to be the one to start it.

Just had to reserect this thread. I had never watched 24 until recently. I got every series and have been watching at least 2 episodes a nite. I'm now half way through series 5 and have to say it's fantastic. Prison break was excellent for the first 2 series but they ran out of ideas. Still I'll watch the last few episodes when they start again in April. But 24 just keeps going, loads of twists to the story, and some nice macs about!!!!!
And Audrey is lovely!!!!!!!
