Just making sure it's normal. Does anyone else's CD drive on their iBook go "when-eh-weh-when-eh-weh" when they turn it on/wake it up? Doesn't sound like a bad noise, just like it's checking itself or something.

EDIT: Duh, iBook G4 in my signature is the iBook in question.

My PowerBook does the same. I assume it's just checking you haven't stuck anything in there whilst it wasn't looking...

Yep, I know three people (as well as myself) with PB's and they all do that every time.

My iBook does it as well. I don't know if it makes the noise during boot up but definitely when it wakes up I can hear the crunching noise.

I feel like I'm missing out on something fun! My ol' TiBook only makes a little "Whir" noise from the hard drive when she wakes up. Maybe if I had a disk in the drive it'd make a noise...

Pretty sure both my 12" PB and 12" iBooks make that noise, ITASOR.

Yeah, thanks everyone. It's normal, the 12" and 14" iBooks in both CompUSA and the Apple Store do the same thing. Kinda annoying when I want to try and be as quiet as possible in class, open my iBook, and it sounds like it's eating something.

I have the same ibook you do, ITASOR, and it wakes up with kind of a "gronk-eh-zeh-zeh-zeh"
That's it! That's my iBook sound. You hit it perfect. :D
