How about the normal close window shortcut Cmd-W. Is this what you're after?
That's what I use. Then, if you have keyboard access turned on, you can just press the spacebar to say "Don't Save" when asked. So it looks like:
Command+W, spacebar

If you don't have Tiger (which is where the tab/spacebar option was introduced I think) you can also use Cmd+D in the save dialogue for 'Don't Save'

yeah, I haven't figured out how to use "keyboard access" yet... so cmd+w and then cmd+D is what I was looking for.
