Hi all,

I'm looking for some good Japanese music. Not modern pop that is to be found any- and everywhere, nor the (really) traditional kind either. This whole evening I've spent searching for it. Been listening to samples on Amazon, eMusic and iTMS, but haven't found what I was looking for. Well, I found this (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=50968990&s=143452) artist to be quite interesting. But still, his music wasn't exactly what I was looking for.

What I'm really looking for, I guess, is not really Japanese music, but music inspired by traditional Japanees music. Know what I mean? Played with either the traditional Japanese instruments (like the shamisen, koto, biwa, shakuhachi and sho) or made electronically, sounding like them.

I remember seeing this extremely cool flash animation (http://cdn.shockwave.com/afassets/flash/drum_machine.swf) for the first time and being gripped by it's music. Especially the introduction music, with the flute. It's that sort of music I'm looking for. Not short snippets like that, though, but really music.

Does anybody here knows where to look for that? Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Holy crap, this whole site (http://www.tokyoplastic.com/) is extremely cool!

Okay, I've found plenty of good Japanese and Chinese music. As it turned out, Amazon and iTMS together are an incredibly good match when finding the music you're looking for. Sometimes it's just so, that you have to look a little harder. But then again, isn't the reward always the greater, the harder you have to look? Indeed.

Excellent artists I checked out:
- Eri Sugai
- Jia Peng Fang
- Mizuyo Koyima
- Uttara-Kuru
- Yamato Ensemble

Excellent compilations I found:
- Shakuhachi - The Japanese Flute
- Lullaby For The Moon
- Pacific Moon

So, thanks for the help, but yesasia.com didn't turn out to be quite the help I'd hoped it would be. Oh well...

I dig Shakazombie, Ayumi Hamasaki, Hide, X-Japan and many others. I've found all my japanese music going to conventions.
