I am trying to migrate from my 2010 17" Macbook Pro to my Air. It has a OCZ-VERTEX4 512GB SSD installed, running 10.8.4.

My Air is a 2010 model with a 128GB SSD.

Can I remove it and install it into the Air and boot up and hit the ground running?

TIA for any pointers!

Does it look like this one?

If so, then unfortunately, it won't fit. Your macBook Air uses mSATA form factor drives, which are smaller and use a different connector. A standard 2.5 inch form-factor SATA drive won't fit.

You could however, get an external USB enclosure for it and use it like an external drive.

What he said!

also if you decide to go for the external enclosure route, don't forget to buy a USB3.0 one others your SSD speed is all just about wasted. :D

MacBook Airs do not use mSATA drives. It's a special format unique to Apple.

But you are in luck!

You could get a USB enclosure and boot off your existing SSD, and then use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone that over to the internal SSD in your Air.
