Try opening Port 113 on your firewall/router.

Just tried that on my router, pointed that port to my machine, and still am getting the same error.

Any ideas?

IdentCtl is a simple tool that allows you to enable and disable identd on OS X. It does not require a reboot, nor does it require that you enable the root account. IdentCtl is distributed under a BSD license.

I had the same problem, try connecting on irc.eskimo.com server instead of irc.newnet.net.

Opening port 113 and linking it to a non-existing local ip address (192.168.0.199) worked for me :)

Start iChat, wait for it to sign you in, then press CMD-G (the apple key) and a little window will pop up.

Make sure that you're in an AOL chatroom, then type in Macrumors as the name of it. You should be all set.

I suggest opening a thread right here since to see the IRC suggestion you have to come here first anyway. Also this is store-forward. IRC you do nlt see all of the "log".

My starting input is more of a wish list than an expectation:

1. A card to add to a OSX desktop computer that has the ports from older Macs. SCSI, ADB, serial, whatever.

2. A card to add to a OSX desktop computer that has the ports from PC's. Parallel, DB9 serial, PS2, VGA.

3. A iPod format CMOS video camera and incidentally still camera at HUGE resolution. 2.1 megapixel video at 30 fps with a 20gh iPod format would be sensational and would command a high retail price of about $1700++ but cost mot much more to manufacture than an iPod.

4. A TV recorder system (iTV and TVraid) that plugs into the TV port on your EXISTING satellite or cable or broadcast output and does any channel switching with a universal remote interface and any scheduling with a .Mac account :)

5. A carousel CD data device ala the audio CD carousels, and related to that a DVD carousel.

6. A pizza box format conmputer (stackable) CPU with a concept similar to a home priced x-serve. Dual ATA bus, single or dual processor, 1000 base T, maybe double the size/thickness of a TiG4.

7. A mac similar to above but/and specifically designed to hook up with 80% of common PC preipherals. Maybe even a utility that allows PC DRIVERS to be installed as mac drivers.

Rocketman

Start-up anyone?

Command-G. OMG, do I feel like a squished turd right about now. Thanks for not laughing too loudly, and thanks for your help!

If you seriously want to use IRC on OS X, I recommend irssi (http://www.irssi.org/). In my experience with IRC clients on Mac OS X there is no decent GUI client as of right now. If you decide to use irssi, I highly recommend that you run it within the GNU application screen (http://www.gnu.org/software/screen/) .

You may want to replace Terminal.app with something that doesn't suck, however, to use irssi at it's full potential. At the moment I can only recomment GLTerm (http://www.pollet.net/GLterm/) (if you aren't running a XFree86 server) or rxvt (http://www.rxvt.org/) (if you are running a XFree86 server).

I hope some of you find this information useful. Maybe these "toy" clients (Snak/Ircle/etc) are good for casual use, but if you need to be on IRC all day for OPN or something, irssi within screen using a decent terminal emulator is the only way to go.

I would suggest X-Chat(and no, you don't need X11, there is an Aqua version). It's at http://xchataqua.sourceforge.net/

for the last two days when I try to connect, I get:

Looking up your hostname...
Checking Ident
Found your hostname
Got Ident response
Closing Link: MyNameHere[255.255.255.255] by irc.aohell.org (No more connections)

with Snak. With others, I get errors like "Not registered yet"

Any ideas?
