We plan on replacing our 9 year old son's ipod touch with an iPad mini (1st gen).

Anyone have thoughts on this case:

I'm thinking otter box is overkill and adds too much weight.

He doesn't take it everywhere with him (we don't allow it). So I'm not sure he needs screen protection. Just something to protect from basic falls off the couch, etc. There is no stand, but I think he will usually just hold it in his hands.

Anyone have experience with the linked case?

No experience at all but to me, that case says 5 or 6-year old, not 9-year old.
For my 9-year old we went with a SwitchEasy CoverBuddy.

Actually the iPad was used and it came with that case but we saw no reason to switch it.
Seemed like adequate protection.

I think the Griffin one is too heavy duty (don't need all the ports etc. covered up). The cygnett one has really poor reviews for fitting right, etc.

What are your thougts on this one:

or this one (more age appropriate than my first listing, but same company):

I like the Photive one.
Mainly because I hate the open logo hole on the back of the other one.
All they do is let dust in which invariably leads to scratches that you're trying to avoid in the first place.
The stand is a nice bonus also.

I have the Lifeproof Fre case for the Mini and it is great for kids. Tad on the pricey side, but it offers great protection.
