I can't think of a single reason that MP3 would be a good format in which to encode ticket information. By the time that all of this comes about the world will likely not even be using MP3s anymore (a small bit of hyperbole to be sure, but you know what I mean). They're not secure, with regard to ticket data, and they're designed for audio, not text.

Biometric and credit information should be lossless, as well, and MP3s are lossy within.

Clever, as a proof of concept, however.

Wouldn't this make more sense on a Pocket PC or Palm?

Think if it the same way that a Griffin iTrip changes radio stations.. the user selects a sound file with the blips and squeeks that the iTrip recognizes as meaning "switch to 98.1".

A more useful implementation though may be imbedding some sort of smartpass chip that one waves near a detector, saving a person from having to pull out there card....

broadcasting financial information over public FM waves sounds pretty risky.

I simply don't want to have to worry about security on my iPod...I just want to listen to music or podcasts on it, period. :D
