Today was Sterns last broadcast on terrestrial radio, it is a sad day. F the FCC for making this happen.

If there are no media outlets for them to regulate then they will be obsolete and out of a job....

So what will they go after next? The internet?... I smell war brewing.

radio was dead a long time ago, this Sirius radio is not really that interesting to me, and I don't see it being too revolutionary..
but IMO radio was dead with or without Howie stern

He was the only thing keeping it alive. The only reason to even turn on the radio.

I thank the FCC for forcing him to go to Sirius. Now I can enjoy his show uncensored :D

Reminds me of "There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again." :D

Well well, it's applicable here too. Opinions are like a**holes, everyone's got one. ;)
So what was the big appeal of Howard Stern?

Hes not afraid to say what he thinks no matter how politically incorrect it may be. He is a breath of fresh air from all the same programming we are forced to listen to and watch day after day. And he is entertaining whether you agree of disagree with what hes saying. That is why he's appealing to me. I respect him for cutting all the bull****.
Plus hes fighting for our freedom of speech against these sensoring ass*****.

Well, whatever a man, a woman, another man, a donkey, and a midget in a baby diaper want to do on the radio.. they should, right??!! Fight the power!

So, being the Stern fan that you are, are you going to cough up 13 bucks a month for Sirius or remain upset over him leaving FM?

It's amazing what half a billion dollars can do to those lofty principles.

I think that I have to support this. And when I can afford to make the switch I will. Not Just for Stern but because Sirius and other pay radio services like XM are trying to make radio good again, and it is something I would like to see come to fruition.

the frustrating thing about today being his last broadcast was that for the live, outdoor portion he was only about 6 blocks from where I was, only I was working and couldn't go...:(

I hardly listen to the radio, but when I did it was never for Howard Stern.
I don't see free Radio dying, because I'm not paying for satellite radio. Plus, I have an iPod and a CD player.

Please, Stern hasn't been funny in about 10 years (many would argue he never was). He is a bitter person who says he invented everything anyone does on the radio. "Tell him, Fred"

I said the same thing until my new car came with XM and 6 months paid. Satellite radio is awesome and I happily continued my subscription after the 6 free months. Plus, I have an iPod and a CD player.

Don't really understand how the cancelation of one persons radio program represents the "end" of radio?
Granted, I am probably taking the title to seriously.
Oh well, have a good weekend everybody.

It was a little bit anti-climatic, I was hoping that it would somewhat follow the normal format, but they did have to walk out at the end.
I was surprised by the number of fans who turned out in the rain. Shouldn't be though, he's had a loyal following for decades.
It would be nice if Stern detractors could just find another thread for a few minutes and let people reminisce on the end of an era.
Despite what Sterns detractors say, he was the funniest thing on the radio.
If you'd never listened to Stern, that's too bad. It's hard to get a real appreciation for the show he did everyday based upon what people who don't like him say about him.

He hasn't been funny because any time he tries to do anything, the FCC jumps on him. Now that he's uncensored and free to do whatever he wants, I think we'll be seeing the humor in his show much more

XM radio is dead. Once someone pirates his program and puts it out as a podcast and distributed on BT, it's over for XM radio.

I saw this on the news. Stern seems pretty happy about it. They said he will be paid 500 million dollars over the next 5 years in the new Sirius gig. That is one hell of a salary.
I wouldn't feel too sad for poor Howard.

Wouldn't hurt XM at all, Sirius is the sat radio that is carrying Stern, not XM.

My daily commute is only about 15 minutes each way so it's not worth it for me to pay $13.00 a month. If I can download Stern's shows daily and put it in my iPod, then I wouldn't mind paying a subscription fee.

I got a chuckle out of some recent Mancow billboards w/the tag line, "King of free media."
I've always been pretty neutral towards Stern (some stuff funny, some not, most just "eh"). I prefer Bod & Tom.

well he wasn't in Minnesota long, our own local Tom Bernard (Link) (http://www.92kqrs.com/morningshow.asp) show drew ratings away, and he had quite the rivalry with Howard. Anyone back in 1998 and 1999 remember Stern going off about Tom "Barnyard", well that was our local show he was reffering too.
I could care less about his show, it is just a radio show isn't it ;)

Wow, you live in LA and only have a 15 minute commute? That is amazing:)
Seriously, I am in the same boat as you are (20 minutes for me) and I have a hard time justifying the purchase as well. I really want to get it for the NFL broadcasts but with only a coupole months left in the season? meh.

yea i don't get it either. The FM radio will be dead the day there will be no broadcasting ... too bad if someone lives in an area with only Howard Stern available in the radio.
