Well I was just looking through the options in Mail.app and I can't seem to find an Export option to export mail. This is very odd to me, am I crazy or is there really no mail export from mail.app?

I did a search but couldn't find anything specifically on this problem, if I missed it can someone please let me know.

Thanks for the help guys!

Well, I suppose you could select the messages you want to export and choose Save As from the File menu. It gives you a few different saving options.

Are you wanting to back Mail up though? For that, I just make a copy of my Mail folder which is in my Home Library. :)

What are you trying to export the mail to? If you're just trying to back up your mailboxes, you could follow mad jew's suggestion. If you're trying to export your mailboxes to another program, then it can get a little dicier depending on which version of OS X you're running.

Mail.app in Panther and earlier versions of OS X store the mailboxes in Unix standard MBOX format, which is the same as Eudora and is easily importable by most e-mail programs.

Mail.app in Tiger stores your mail in a slightly different format, but it can be converted back to regular MBOX format with an appropriate script. See instructions at:
