Just had to say that as of today, I am finally on winter break! YAHOOOOO!!!!!!!! :D
Although, I have had a great semester at college- I am quite ready to take a holiday (till ~January 17th! :) ). Looking forward to a time of peace and relaxation (actually I will spend most of the time at work- but it beats hitting the books).
Sorry, just had to express my joy; anyone else glad for winter break?

Have a great 4 weeks off from school.
How long are semesters anyway? Quarters at my Uni. are 10 weeks long.

Well, it's all upside down here so I'm on summer break and have been since the end of November. I don't need to go back to uni until March which should give me a little while to earn some cash.
Aren't holidays the greatest! :p

Semesters at my school are 14 weeks of classes, not including breaks. In primary school we have 4 quarters, but for college it's generally broken down into 2 semesters, though I know there are some universities, like UChicago, that actually have 3 trimesters. Not sure if that means the school year is supposed to seem like pregnancy though... :p

I am almost in the same boat as you. I have my last final tomorrow morning and then I am on break until January 17th. Well, that is actually under normal circumstances, next semester I am actually going to a different school (Aalborg in Denmark) through a study abroad program. That means I won't start until Feburary 1st:D

Cool! I am playing around with the idea of studying abroad the first semester of my junior year (the semester following the one after break) in London, England. I have to yet make up my mind though...
Have fun, sounds like a great opportunity. :)

Second session 2006 = spring. First session 2006 = Autumn.
We don't call it Fall here cause bugger all of our leaves actually "fall." Come out for the whole year, you get a better appreciation of a place if you stay for a full 12 months. That way you get the best of the beach weather (summer) and the best weather to see the outback (winter). And if you stay the whole year you'll get to see us try and win back The Ashes off England - those pommies are going to pay...

Just so you know, some people will think I'm a dork, I did my paper on the World Wide Web. Very, very detailed and interesting. Lots of stuff I didn't know. Finals ended on thursday for me.
Well.. ended on wednesday, more like it. On thursday, I had symphony and strings (and I'm not playing currently.. :() so I skipped school and slept at home.
ohhh yes. :) and it was good.
I PASSED THE CALCULUS SEMESTER!! Ahh! I'm so excited!
Eeee!
and because of hurricane Rita, we get to go back to school on jan 2.
EVEN THOUGH THE TEXAS LEGISLATURE SAID WE DIDN'T HAVE TO MAKE UP THOSE DAYS, AND ALL THE FUNDING WOULD STILL BE SENT TO HISD
Aaahhhhh!!! Two days are really gonna matter? (they're taking the holiday of Feb. 13, too! And my recital was gonna be on a 3-day weekend...)
It's because those two days matter for teaching to the TAKS test or something...

I'll probably be surfing when I can and then I have to roadtrip back up to Ohio right after Christmas. I've got a month of vacation, but the track team is going to Florida for Spring Training. We're a Division III school and we're racing a Division I school haha, we're going to get killed.

Doesn't everyone?
Swimming is cool. I don't know anyone who can't swim.
Oh, you mean competitively?
Cause then that's me out. I could beat some people back in school but not everyone. Then again, nobody gives a rat's arse about High School/Uni sports here. You want a crowd to watch you play? The it's the state or national team for you young man.
I'm always amazed to see these colleges and high schools in the US with 20000+ seat stadiums. Even if our 1st XV Rugby team were playing Sydney Uni's 1st XV Rugby team you'd be kidding yourself if you thought any more than 100 people were going to turn up. And high School sports? Pfft! Fugghedabowdit....

Haha yeah that is an interesting perspective. Living in Germany it was about the same with High School sports. Not really any to speak of.
I went to an Ohio St. football game this year and there were over 100,000 people in the crowd. The noise and atmosphere was absolutely unreal. It's scary to think that some college teams are more popular than pro teams.
I wonder why there's such a difference between the way Americans and the rest of the world approaches sports.

I get 3 weeks off for Winter break. One week for Spring break. And from June 10 to September 24'ish for Summer break. Of course I had my official last Summer break Last Summer as I will be graduating June 2006. My god, 6 years as a student. Almost reached "Professional Student" status :D
Honestly, I think that our 10 week quarters are a bit to short and our summer break is a bit to long. We start school right as the weather is changing to rain forecasts. I'm probably the only student at Western who wishes that quarters were longer. :o
