For those who live, or are visiting, the lovely city of Brisbane, Australia, you can now have free broadband internet in the City Mall. All you need is a machine equiped with a WiFi receiver (ie. An Airport Card) and you'll be on the web in seconds.

For the moment it is only a 3 month trial which started in December and, IMO, when they full realise the implications of such a venture they'll can the idea, but those on 56Kb might as well take a *Book in the city and do your surfing there.
:)

i understand several cities, including New York City, have this in parks, malls, public places. i'd love it, i'd put a giant antenna on my computer and get broadband at home :)

they probably put filters or netnanny or something on it tho... :/

That does not suprise me... interesting coming from Brisbane, though, since it is no where near the biggest city in Australia. I want to know how they intent to stop hackers from going in, hacking away and going out without being noticed.
