I tried to download a newer version of OSX yesterday but it played havoc with my G5 imac. In the end I had to re-install my software, luckily I have not lost anything but safari will not work. Double click the icon and nothing. I have to browse using internet explorer.
Can anyone shed any light on this.

It could be that the icon in your dock is pointing at the wrong place, even though Safari is still in your Applications folder.
To find out:
1. Click the Finder icon to open a Finder window.
2. Click "Applications".
3. Find Safari.app and double-click it.
If that works, then replace the Safari icon in your dock as follows:
1. Drag the current Safari icon out of your dock and drop it on the desktop. It'll go "poof!"
2. Drag Safari.app into your dock, in the position where it used to be. This will make a new up-to-date dock icon that should work from now on.

Don't jump to conclusions. It's probably a free upgrade, eg. 10.4.0 to 10.4.3.

to tell you in detail I tried to download front row:eek: from Mcmac website, but I needed the newer verions 10.4 osx. My nephew has front row on his macmini and so I wanted it, thats when the trouble started for me, learn the hardway, so I tried to download 10.4 but thats when it played up, 10.4 is not a free upgrade from mac.com for some reason, or I just have'nt found it yet when I click software update.
Thats where i've gone wrong then, there isnt a free up grade for panther, I need tiger (I did purchase) which I have but it didnt like my broadband ISP, and they didnt have the upgrade for tiger then so reverted back to panther for less hassle. Will apple mac front row for panther users then???

After your install did you move any of your apps around – specifically Safari? I like to file things away in neat little folders (I'm a bit anal like that) but I found that it caused problems with apps like iSync and Dictionary. Moving them back to the Apps folder solved the problem.

Ah, so eva was right, and you were indeed trying to pirate 10.4
