Amelio's tenure at Apple was not as bad as it is made out to be IMO. He laid the foundation (axing a bloated payroll, cutting projects and stockpiling cash) for Jobs incredible success. He made the tough decisions and was the hatchet man that allowed Jobs to come in and shine. I wonder where we'd be today had Jobs had to do all that dirty work.

I agree, and i believe the article is very sympathetic to Amelio. A very interesting read all round.
