Read it here first. Rolls Royce just debuted their new web site featuring the new 2004 Rolls Royce Phantom.

DETROIT -- Although the BMW Group has been able to legally use the Roll-Royce name for less than one week, the company wasted little time putting its stamp on the revered brand.

It introduced the Rolls-Royce Phantom Sunday at Detroit's North American International Auto Show. It was the first time the car has been shown in North America.

In development since BMW first acquired the licensing rights to Rolls-Royce five years ago, the 2004 Phantom is 19-feet long, 6.5 feet wide and more than five feet tall. Curb weight is 5,577 lbs. It rides on 22-inch wheels and tires.

The car's 6.75-liter V12 makes 453 horsepower and 531 pound-feet of torque. Three-quarters of the Phantom's torque is delivered from 1,000 rpm and can move the car from 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds. Top speed is 130 mph.

The Phantom has an aluminum space frame manufactured to tolerances of 0.5 mm. It has a double skin floor to lessen noise, vibration and to enhance stiffness. And the wheel wells are carpeted to further dampen interior sound.

Each rear door -- they swing open from the B pillar -- has an umbrella in the frame.

The Phantom has 18 exterior colors, 15 interior colors and six different woods to choose from. That is the standard equipment.

Helmut Panke, chairman of the board of management of BMW AG, said that ultimately Rolls-Royce is a "custom built customer specific product."

The Phantom has composite front finders in which the antennae for radio, navigation system and telematics are imbedded. Its vaunted hood ornament will retract for security purposes or to reduce air resistance at high speeds.

Prices start at 320,000 euros, about $329,000 at current exchange rates. The first car will be delivered in the US in April or May.

Rolls Royce's are ugly, overly large, and over priced. They don't look good and are not even that great of a car.
