Usually I'm a bit wary of people talking about the "old" bands and how much better they used to be, but I couldn't agree with you more in U2's case.

Usually I'm a bit wary of people talking about the "old" bands and how much better they used to be, but I couldn't agree with you more in U2's case.Depends on the band, but in the case of U2 there clearly goes a very distinct line with the release of The Joshua Three. For many that is the beginning of U2 as they know them, for me that marked the end (even though Rattle And Hum from the following year was OK, but then again, it was based on mostly old material).
For me U2 will always be the band that during the first half of the 80s gave out Boy, October, War and The Unforgettable Fire with War as the highpoint, along with the fantastic live performance Under A Blood Red Sky released as an album and video. Almost everything they've released after that is totally uninteresting to me... :)
