Actually, I have a US account (I live there primarily) but can't even access the music store from here in Switzerland with it. I think it routes you based on your internet connection's origin, not credit card details. It's pretty annoying really, I have no idea why they do it.

I suspect it's because their licenses are based on individual countries. i.e. Apple is only licensed to sell to the USA via their USA site, the UK via their UK site etc.

In a similar way, it's even more frustrating seeing regular refurb offers on the USA Apple Store and not being able to buy from Canada.

I think you'd need the US credit card and postal address to register, sorry. :o

You should be able to select the US store from down the bottom still. Won't it let you?

Funny thing, I live in Argentina, prior to this, I used to live in the USA. I had a n Apple store ID since I bought a powermac, and many itunes tracks from the itms as well as the applestore.

Prior to leaving the US, I cancelled my CCs, but I left my Apple ID active. Currently I can access the iTunes music store, download the free tracks/movies. To top it all out, I found a itms gift certificate which I sent out many moons ago was never redeemed, I used the code..*BAM* was downloading some albums out of the itms. Pretty damn cool.

Anybody, willing to give me an itms gift certificate for xmas ;)?

Back before iTunes was in Canada and I was desperate to try it out I picked up a US Music Card when I was down there for a weekend, and was able to set up a US account with it without a credit card. Now even though I've used up all the songs and have a different account that I use on the Canadian one, I can still sign in with the US one and score the free songs and videos. You might want to try that.

You need a US credit card, gift card, or gift certificate, or someone can gift you songs from that store. Actually, if you just want the free downloads, have someone with a US credit card gift you one of the free songs. Trust me, it works.

i also find it very frustrating.......i really want to buy TV shows here in the UK that are ready to be downlooaded and are able to be transferred directly to my iPod 5G. at the moment, i have to through the tedious process of converting and everything.

doe sanyone know if canon cameras film in Muxed or demuxed video? its really frustrating to have home movies with no sound when converted.

I had been going throught a similar situation, I am in the USA but I wanted to buy music from iTunes Greece. I was dissapointed to learn that that was not possible.

If my friend buys iTunes gift certificate in Greece for me, I can use it for iTunes Greece in the USA??

You can buy cards for the Japanese store from J-list.com. They even give you an address you can use to register with.

You can order US gift cards from Amazon US and get them shipped to the UK, I guess. Or I guess paypal some cash to someone based in the US, and get them to send you a gift certificate.

To redeem a gift card or a 'gift' song, you don't need the credit card; and you'll have access.

In theory, yes.
You'll have to make an account with a Greek mailing address. You could probably use your friend's, or use the capitol building there (or whatever they call it).

so upon purchasing a US iTunes card, the user has to type in his u.s. address and it would work.

You can thank the record labels for this idiocy. Apple is simply a pawn in their greedy little game.

Yep, I do this too - I used a $50 US card and downloaded 50 songs, and can still get all the freebies.
