View Full Version : Looking for firewire 3.5" enclosure

Dec 27, 2005, 04:14 AM
I don't need anything fancy, but I do need firewire. USB2 is nice for the future, but not useful now...

I'd love to buy one from someone here $30-35 shipped to 80301, but
does anybody have any experience with the generic ones from ebay? with the holidays, everybody seems to have inflated their shipping to $15-20 (but I'd like to access my data soon)

Any suggestions for my dilemma? I need/want one soon but don't want to pay $20 shipping. any offers/ places to look?

I recently purchased this enclosure (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817145338) from newegg at the suggestion of a friend. It's not firewire, but it does say ready for Mac on the box. I've also heard the Oxford 911 chipset is what you want to look for. $27.99 is a good price IMO.

I hooked up my 40g harddrive from an old Compaq, formatted it (7 wipes, 11 hours), and it's been working flawlessly!

I bought this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817145154) enclosure at newegg. It costs a little more than others but I really didn't want a cheap plastic case. This enclosure also acts as a heatsink for the hard drive keeping it cool without using a fan. It is a quailty device. I currently use it for my Mac mini's boot drive. I also have the 2.5" and 5.25" enclosures from Mapower.

No love for OWC's products?: http://www.macsales.com/

I'm about to buy an enclosure through them.
