The moderators have selected the finalists for the Best Static Avatar contest. Now it's the members' turn to vote for their favorite. The winner will be the entry with the most votes by the end of the voting period, Saturday (New Year's Eve) at midnight EDT. In the case of a tie, we'll leave the polls open for an extra day.

Entries are in alphabetical order. Please vote for your one favorite in this poll and in each of the 2 other contest polls as well. It is also quite appropriate to post comments and compliments in this thread.

Choosing was not an easy task so entries that just missed the finals were awarded Honorable Mention. Congratulations to all of the members who entered the contest and thanks for your participation.

Static avatars: Honorable Mention:

Additional Honorable Mention:

A number of contest entries had a MacRumors theme or a 2 million post theme. These themes were not contest categories. Veldek's avatar above was a near-finalist in its own right, and we were also impressed with one other static avatar having a 2 million post theme:

Lacero definitely gets my vote for this one - very impressive for the constraints you had to work with - well done!

Dare I say the 3D Apple looks very polished? :o :p ;)

Since max_altitude's Warhol (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=167926) didn't make it to the finals, it has to be Lacero's apple carving, no doubt about that... :)

I hadn't seen max_altitude's initially, thanks for the link. That is indeed a cool one, but Lacero's 3D masterpiece is the clear winner in my books. Obviously all the others are great as well, (everyone is far more talented than I, that's for sure!), but that one is simply impressive.

My vote went to qpawn for the nice blending of vibrant colors surrounding the Apple logo.

But with the other one not in the finals, the pure simplistic genius of Lacero's embossing is a clear winner... :)

Well here's my vote for Lacero's.

Oh well, thought I had a chance :( ;)

Doesn't matter, I'm approaching the big 500 anyway, so you'll be able to see it soon enough. :)

It was fun anyway!

Lacero get's my vote out of this lot btw.

It was an excellent one, so definitely don't sell yourself short! And as you say, we'll be able to see it soon regardless, so it's all good. :)

Yeah definitely don't worry about it. I think you made a pretty cool tar. Though in my book Lacero still has the edge. But a very awesome numer 2 you created there. :)

http://forums.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=36934It's a pity there's no category for these MR achievements (perhaps when we hit 3 million posts?). But I'm very proud about this, too.

Do we also get bragging rights now? ;)

Thanks for the votes, everyone. I'm choked up inside, right now.
*clears throat* w00t!

In the great wealth, the great firmament of this forum's generosity, the particular choice may perhaps be found by future generations as a trifle eccentric, but the mere fact of it -- the prodigal, pure, human kindness of it -- must be seen as a beautiful star in that firmament which shines upon me at this moment. The one avatar I spend the least amount of time on, wins... go figure. Also special thanks to Sir Laurence Oliver! ;)Here's to the Crazy Ones http://forums.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=35452 (http://www.uriah.com/apple-qt/movies/think-different.mov)

Wow, how long did it take for you to come up with that speech?

It's totally ripped off from an Oscar acceptance speech by Sir Laurence Olivier.

It was foot-noted/referenced so not technically ripped off. :) It's a good quote nonetheless.

Oh yeah, it's a damn good avatar. Cheers
