Just wondering as ex-education eMacs are super-cheap and only thing stopping me is the 17" screen...

Well according to the specs on this page (http://www.macspeedzone.com/html/hubs/specs/emac/emac.shtml) you should be able to connect to another monitor via either a mini VGA output or S-vid.

You can mirror an external monitor normally. If you install the screen spanning hack you can run both screens. It should work on all but the GeForce 2 MX model.

You will need a $20 adapter from Apple to get an external monitor to work. The adapter goes from the mini VGA to regular VGA. DVI is not an option.

When you say that the eMac is super cheap, are we talking sub $400 super cheap? If not, have you considered a mini? The refurbs are pretty cheap. If you can stand the slower hard drive and lesser video then that may be better.
