Hi, I'm looking to purchase an external Blu-ray drive to attached to my 2012 iMac running Mavericks. It needs to author discs and have BDXL support.

Any recommendations?

Thanks :)

BluRay Burner for Mac

MacFilm,

I've been using an LG burner to author & playback BluRays on my rMBP for the past year without problems. I connect with USB 3 using an Archgon USB 3 enclosure. $33. It has a detachable small SATA /USB 3 interface hub which you can plug into any bare drive or burner & plug & play. Not elegant but simple & versatile & cheaper than 5.25" enclosures.

I use MacGo Blu Ray Player which isn't great but it works.
I've authored using Adobe Encore and the LG works swell.

Below is a NewEgg link. $68. Plays 3d blurays and supports BDXL.

I use a LaCie D2 BluRay burner but a quick search says it's discontinued now. But it works great for me, if you can find one. A bit on the bulky side but fast and reliable.

OWC has several options that are good. I grabbed the one that came packaged with Toast 11. A bit bulky, but it uses USB 3 over 2 and has the best BR write speed of any others that I've seen.
