Burt Bacharach (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burt_Bacharach)

King of the double-tracked flugelhorn lines.
Composer of some of the definitive adult-popular and film music of the late 60's and 70's.

For contemprary reference, see Herb Alpert (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herb_Alpert)

And in related news, Tom Jones (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Jones_%28singer%29), originally from Pontypridd, Wales, has just been knighted. So ladies throwing their delicates onstage will have to address their love notes to Sir Tom.

I think that's the first song I learned to play on my trumpet - back in like '69
