I recently wiped and reinstalled my computer with Mavericks and set everything in the app store pane in system preferences to be unticked.
I'm on a 30GB a month plan (New Zealand is crap for internet, long story) and was averaging a GB a day right up until the end of my cycle (on the 2nd of Feb) when I checked this evening and find my remaining data has been virtually exhausted. Checking I find Mavericks has downloaded the updates anyway despite me telling it not to (being a work laptop I was going to do all the updates - ie 10.9.1, etc - tomorrow when I return to work).
Is this a "feature" in Mavericks to download updates and seemingly ignore the preference pane or a bug in 10.9.0?

Or maybe it's this:
