Let's not just knock it coz it hasn't got an Apple badge eh? :)

Higher resolution screen, higher resolution movie files, widescreen playout onto your TV, lots of good stuff here...

...but (and there had to be a but)...

...it is a bit fat and ugly, and doesn't play nice with iTunes (well, iTunes doesn't play nice with it, technically ;) )

Good to see that Creative are switching up a gear to try and compete, hopefully this will push along Apple to improve their media playing toys?

Higher resolution screen
Let's stop right there. It's not, it's still a 2.5" 320x240 screen The only stated difference is the color depth 18 bits vs. 16 bits, which in and of itself is pretty meaningless unless they both also specify a contrast ratio.

The wide variety of codecs, including the older MPEGs and MJPEG is definitely somewhat appealing to me, wish Apple had done the same.

Why don't they support M4A though? They must already support it to playback M4V's no?

Despite Apple's extremely tight grip on the market, I agree that any type of competition is healthy and benefits all consumers in the long run. As tech companies go, Apple is unquestionably deserving of the critical praise it receives, but it is not perfect by any means nor is it realistic for anyone to expect that from any business.

This story line is getting almost as old as the "Apple is going bankrupt" stuff was a couple of years back.

I was going to just come out and say sorry, I was wrong, but hey, as it turns out, I wasn't :p

res·o·lu·tion

n. The fineness of detail that can be distinguished in an image, as on a video display terminal.

Sounds like 18 bit colour is higher resolution than 16 bit colour to me :)

Mmmmm, on the Axim site I go to, someone was very proud because he intercepted his wife from buying his daughter (I think about 12) an iPod for Christmas, had her return it, and got her a Windows Mobile PDA, on which she can also listen to music, instead, for a present. I wonder how that turned out.  :D

This thing looks a lot like the LifeDrive from Palm. Although I guess quite a bit bigger, if it has a 30GB HD.

i would just buy the apple ipod because
1) its way better looking
2) you can usually trust apple to be high quality
3) of course the creative is going to have better spec because they waited an saw what apple put out and matched thier spec better a few months later

i dont see this as a threat no one even cares about creative ahaahahah
