I can see this evolving into what is a much better yellow pages. Not that Meetro is the next phone book, but the functionality is much more friendly than the cold yellow pages type phone directories.

As a company you would have a presence on the network to provide your customers a way to contact them instantly, as opposed to via email, or even phone. Phone is instant, but disconnected. you have to leave the phone directory and use the phone. A user could look for say an auto repair shop sorted by closest to you. And not closest to your zip, closest to your actual location, based on IP or local address. then click to talk to your chosen shop to set an appointment or ask if they fix solar cars.

again, Meetro is just another IM but with location. IM already has voice and video capabilities. And once the AOL/Yahoo/MSN/GTalk/etc. monster gets it together, IM and Phone will be morphed together. You can have simple cheap IM/phone devices for your kitchen wall, or bedroom. And also use full featured clients on computers.

Boy after reading this....what the heck am I rambling on about? This is an IM client Alpha, not the Linux Toaster

You raise some good points Settle. I was just thinking that I wasn't going to try this because I have too much of a life (unlike the lost at sea MySpace generation).

So they announced on June 14th that Meetro for OS X was released. I downloaded it, and it doesn't work. Freezes up while trying to log in. The only other comment I can find on it describes the same problem I'm having. Meetro hasn't responded to me at all. Has anyone gotten it to work?

I found a statement on the download page for Meetro that it may take some time to log in because they are experiencing high volume and to please be patient. Ha! So the two hours I waited before killing it wasn't long enough?

I got an e-mail from them this morning, basically stating the above. I was able to log in without problems today as well. But there's nobody within x miles of me. :-(
