View Full Version : Feeler: Used Radeon 9600 XT

I'm thinking of upgrading the graphics card on my G5, and I'm wondering if there is any interest in/willingness to pay real money for my old one. it's a Radeon 9600 XT with 128 MB of memory. it shipped with my Power Mac in July 2004. never been clocked, never given me any problems. (well, other than being on the slow side for what I'm doing...)
so, any takers? and no, on balance, I will not accept guitar picks as legal tender. not even as revenge payment for the many times I have offered them to retailers in the interest of rounding out change.
I can get a picture if anyone cares enough.

I'm sure this will go soon.
I'm sure theres a lot of G5 owners still stuck with the FX5200. ;)

somebody was wondering if this will run on a Power Mac G4. does anyone know the answer to this, or where I could find out? ATI doesn't make them anymore so that's not much help.

i believe this is only for 8x agp
so it wont work in a G4 if that is true, only in a G5

ok I'm abandoning this one on account of not having the money to buy its replacement, but it may be going back up in a few months so keep an eye out for it then. thanks for your interest.

To answer your question about this working on a PM G4...
It can work, but you need to modify it. A little tape here and there, some resistors changed, and a dead ADC port. The instructions are online somewhere.

Yes applekid is right. Only 2 pins to tape and the card works in an AGP 4X slot. I have a modified Radeon 9600 pro in my G4 digital audio and it's cool. Only $50 on eBay (the 9600 pro. 64 megs vram). If you have a pivot LCD monitor (mine is the 19" Dell Ultrasharp), the pivot software is actived in the system preferences monitor panel under OS 10.4.3 and you can change your display position (portrait or landscape). Here's a link that shows how to tape the pins 3 and 11 on the radeon AGP 8X video card:
