12" & 17" Powerbook benchmarks

Bare Feats (http://www.barefeats.com/pb17.html) has some benchmarks on the new powerbooks...

Looks like the lack of L3 cache in the 12"PB has hurt it in CPU and memory performance.

I don't know the much about Xbench or how fair the 'sneaky' benchmarking was but it provides a taste of possible performance.

So then over all there is not going to be a HUGE difference in performance between the 17inch and the 15 inch powerbook?

Well it is the same 1 GHz processor after all...:rolleyes:

The memory is upgraded to DDR...and it is noticible better.

Somehow the downgraded graphics performed well in the OpenGL test.

It's probably the 333/166 thing that did it, not the DDR.

Well, we don't know how fast Apple has got the different graphics chips clocked, and it is quite possible that nVidia has significantly better optimized Mac drivers than ATI.

I take it the ddr ram will not work in the 15inch. So they redid the motherboard?

It is frustrating that aluBook is slower in CPU and thread test!!! :mad:

But I have explanation for that: display brightness and keyboard light management takes away some cpu time.. so that might be it.
I wonder if it can be turned off somehow?

the 12" PB is a cool thing but I don't see a reason to upgrade from my current iBook 12" 800/30/640 performancewise. If they had a 12" with the 17" features I'd order it NOW, and I'd happily pay for the features.

I just love that 12" form factor. Fits in every bag, doesen't get it the way.

You can rest assurred that the lighting does not quite nearly that much CPU power, if it requires any at all.

I am happy that my 3 month old laptop isn't outdated at all yet :)
