MR "Insert Link" Function Now Working in Safari

Couldn't find the original mention of this issue though the search function, so I'm starting a new thread...sorry.

Safari users had previously mentioned a problem on these boards where inserting links wasn't working properly. When you'd click "Insert Link," you only got the option to paste the link, and then clicking "OK" simply inserted the link without giving you a chance to provide alternate plain text for the link. You then have to manually go back in to highlight the plain text portion and change it...pain in the patoot.

Anyway, it appear that the latest Safari update in 10.4.4 fixed this problem, and the plain text portion now appears highlighted after the link in insertion, making it easy to change...woo hoo!

And the other tags are now working correctly as well...for instance, highlighting a portion of text and clicking on "Bold" actually bolds the desired text instead of uselessly putting both bold tags at the end my entire composition.

Even after the VB update i still have to highlight and replace after when using Safari 2.0.2. Haven't upgraded to 10.4.4 yet, I'll do it to one of the work Macs and see if it fixes this problem. And yes I've cleared cache and enabled porn browsing

Yep, the Safari 2.0.3 update with 10.4.4 will fix it for you...

About time this was sorted out. I always found it slightly embarrassing that IE on a PC worked better on these forums than Safari on OSX. :rolleyes:

Of course Firefox has managed this all along, and since the new Safari still crashes wildly on one of my most frequented sites, I'll stick to Firefox... ;)

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I noticed something else cool about the link function (which seems to work fine for me on Panther) -

If you want to create a link, you can also highlight the text that you wish to be a link, then hit the link button and add your URL. The highlighted text will then become the link text automagically. Sweet.

For example, if I want to create a link to Carbon Copy Cloner (http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html), I just type it first, then go back and highlight it and add the link. This is especially nice when you don't have the link when you first write the post.

Thanksd for that tip emw, I actually run into that problem a lot when I don't have a link handy. Definitely well worth resurrecting the thread for. :cool:
