There are rumors circulating that Apple will be releasing a "Limited Edition" Black iMac to go along with the Black iPods sometime in 2006. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this rumor? as I would be extremely interested in purchasing such a product.

it's more speculation than actual rumors.

I think the white is what sets the imac apart from regular PCs which seem to usually be dark grey or black these days. Although if that apple symbol lit up a la the laptops it would be pretty cool.

I had actually initially like the idea of a black iMac when murmurings about one were heard last year. But the one shown above does not look as appealing as I had hope. Its a bit harsh on the eye.

And the Apple logo would need to be red:cool:

If you want a black iMac, there's this site that makes this really cool slip covers for the iMac. They're available in all different colors. I don't remember the site though, maybe someone else does. I thought they were pretty cool and love that idea that if you get tired of it, you can just slip it back off (as opposed to getting a colorware iMac).

Personally, I love the white (even better than aluminum) and wouldn't buy one, but I do think they're a good idea.

It would look great in black, but somehow people are gonna scratch up a desktop and then complain.

Supposedly Apple files for a patent a little while back for a color changing case. There are LEDs all over the case that make it whatever color you want and/or always changing colors.

I am a big fan of the metallic look of the G5 PowerPC, Powerbooks and Cinema Displays. I'd love to see an Aluminum iMac. Of course, I'd LOVE to see an iMac with a battery and a touchscreen.

Don't forget, thats probably just a black paint fill in photoshop...but that's not how an "Apple Ad" would depict it, haha it would look MUCH better with gloss from lighting, same finish as an iPod, but we wouldn't put it in our pocket and scratch it ;)

i like mactallic. however, it looks wierd without matching mouse and keyboard though. i would buy the blac imac or the metal imac if they have the matching keyboard and mouse set,

Well, it's possible!

I'm not a fan of the black color though, I think white fits the iMacs perfectly.

For the 30th Anniversary, Apple should make 1000 iMacs of each colour. That's 10000 limited edition iMacs. They would fly out the friggin door and people would be buying them for like $4000 each on eBay or something. It would also be a media hype machine.

Thats a good idea. So far I've only heard 2 good ideas for the 30th Anniversary; the 30" iMac and this.
