i love the inflamitory headline that Cnet uses.

it was a much longer article than needed really too.
nice and short email that Jobs sent out. (he even acknowledged that things could change back just as quickly)

...inflamitory headline...
It's headlines like that that make me hate journalists. I don’t know how many times I’ve read an article where I know I’ve only got a little knowledge on the subject but come away knowing I know more than the journalist who ‘researched’ it, and I just know that a lot of other readers will come away thinking they’ve learnt something.

We had a front page headline in the local paper (for a community of ~90K) “Bird Flu Could Kill 650”. Now it’s not that the headline is wrong but it doesn’t say that bird flu could alternatively kill 'none' or again alternatively kill 'all'. Where is the news in that?

Fact is: Michael Dell is a tool and he ate some crow now...not only he said that he would shut it down and give money to shareholders, but also that he would never accept a CEO position there, as Apple was hopeless.

Funnily, Dell is close to hopeless now, with its clunky machines and stupid philosophy...here's to the losers, Dell fanboys!

If Apple had enough money, it wouldn't be too bad of an idea.

Yeah, they'd finally be able to sell a complete machine for under $400. Even though it would be a stripped down piece of crap, millions would buy them just cause its a dell and its under $400.

That and its practical. Dell is the exact opposite of Apple: function over form.

Mmmmm, at the time that Jobs started turning Apple around, Apple was worth little more than its brand name. Which, admittedly, was probably one of the best brand names in the computing industry even then, because of all the visibility it got in the earlier heydays of the Mac, as well as the Apple ]['s that people in my generation grew up with. But they didn't have much else at that time. So I can sort of see Dell's point. But brand name is worth a lot, in addition to Jobs deserving a lot of the credit for being visionary enough to turn Apple around. I think from Mr. Dell's business acumen and mindset, for him, his solution would've been the best, because he could have done much more with Apple's market cap by starting over than by reinvigorating. I personally am glad that it was Jobs and not Dell who got the chance at the helm! :)
