I'm very happy with iWeb, but there are a few things that bother me.

1. I have beutiful quality pics in iPhoto. but when they are imported to iWeb and uploaded they go fuzzy .png and the size is too big for dialup users. What is to be done about this?

2. iWeb converts all my text to .png images. Go to my site and try to highlight the text. It's impossible. WTF is going on?

I want to be able o tweak things a hair more, but there is little html to edit when everthing is images...

You can't highlight the text because it is an image.

Its a very new app with only a handfull of users. give it a little time for responses.

yeah but I have seen some iWebs that you can highlight the text. but mine is all images.

I don't have iWeb, but I took a look at your sight and you're right - all the text has been converted to images and the images are way too big (in file size). I think the reason for the text conversion is that PCs currently do not smooth text like Macs do and Apple wants all websites created in iWeb to look good. This obviously negates all the benefits of having actual text on your site. My suggestion is to look deep inside the preferences of iWeb and see if you can disable text conversion to images and also change the image compression to a higher level (which would make file sizes smaller). Admittedly, I always use jpegs on my sites so I am unfamiliar with the behavior of PNGs in a web setting. Maybe you can change the default file type to jpeg? Good luck!

iWeb converts the text to images only on certain sites. My iWeb test (http://www.davidleblond.com/iwebtest/iwebtest.html) has only some of the text converted to image.

Basically, if it uses a fancy font that not everyone has, it gets converted to an image.

I posted the same response to the same question from the same user in another thread (my iWeb site is also text as expected). He is sure he is only using the default text fonts that Apple set in the template. When I get home I'll post the exact fonts I am using that result in text not images for me...

Find out what template it is. Some of the templates have fonts that LOOK like they are normal fonts, but if they may be Mac specific ones so they would be converted to text.

Plus if you skew the text in any way, it has to convert that to an image as well.

Basically, if I used iWeb for my entire site it would eat my bandwidth in a day. And thats with only 2 people looking at it! :)

I've been toying with iWeb for a week now. I won't post my site until it's done but The large photo thing is a problem. I was hoping that iWeb/iPhoto would optimize photos for the web on the fly but that isn't the case. I have ended up running a Photoshop action to convert all my photos to 90 dpi with a maximum height (or width) of 7 inches. I've tested this on a 56 dialup modem and everything loads in much faster. Now if I could just find a way to get my videos below 5-8 MB without looking crappy. Ugh.

you've got three instances of 'not' before a comma. Makes it taxing to read, I'd consider re-wording one or two of them.

OK I have my fonts set to Arial Regular 15pt. No rotations, not shadows. Left align. Results in text not images.
