So, can we hope for the low-end chip of the X1000 Mobility series for the iBook and Mac mini?

That's good news, except for the lag factor. However nice it is for a software update to produce dramatic speed increases, I personally expect new hardware to be fully functional at the time of purchase.

Call me old fashioned.

If the iBook gets this nice h.264 decoder on the X1000 series I'm buying it. I hate using the CPU for so much. I'm going to say and X1300 for it.

So when it comes to improved performance, these news Macs may turn out to be the gifts that keep on giving.

And this is why I have no issues with purchasing a New PowerBook*. With future updates and Leopard these systems are going to continue to be screamers.
