very elegant solution. drewel.

hopefully the PCI-e bus and FW bus will not have to share bandwidth in future powermacs allowing for this card to be used to it's fullest alongside other FW/PCI-e based DSP cards etc.

as it stands now.. people loading up on FW peripherals and running hi-bandwidth PCI DSP cards like the UAD-1 run into bandwidth issues.. pops, clicks, drop outs etc..

probably less an issue (???) w/pci-e based cards but only time will tell.

Huh, only FireWire 400. Hmmm.

NOT that one needs that much bandwidth to record, heck my MBox uses only USB 1.1 and I can record on the road two tracks (mic and guitar) using my iBook and ProTools at the same time with no problems.

Still I wonder why they didn't embrace FW 800 for this.

Oh, that's easy, they have something else (http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/symphony.php) they'd rather sell you :)

Yep, I saw this on the apoogee website too, and before I chased down the thread comments... pretty impressive piece of kit.
