I have had a nightmare wth norton internet securities. It isn't compatible with Mac OS 10.4.4.

Well, are you sure you want antivirus software clogging up your system?
There are currently no threats to the OSX platform so the only two reasons I can think of for needing such an app are if an institution demands it or if you work a lot with PCs and don't want to transfer anything unwittingly to them. 🙂

Really, don't bother with any Norton product for your Mac. They no longer actively support the platform and provide negligible benefits anyway. Tiger has a good firewall built in and if you want to run anti-virus software, download ClamXav. It's free.
If you are concerned about privacy, you can monitor things with Little Snitch.
Norton disk utilities can cause more problems than they solve, so skip them too. Alsoft's Disk Warrior is the program of choice for most, but there is also Drive Genius and Tech Tool Pro. All three provide different levels of data recovery or corruption protection. They are all a little different, but have a lot of overlap. Be sure to get the one that covers what you want it to do. Most people end up getting two of the three since there is no true complete solution for data recovery yet.
