i have a number of audio files that are in the .wv format. i know its some sort of wmv that is lossless but thats about it. i can play them only in cog on my powerbook. i want to convert them to something that i can play in itunes. i tried using xact to decode them to wav or aiff but that doesnt work. is there a mac application that i can use to decode them to another format that mac uses? will be able to burn these on toast and will they convert them for me. QT pro doesnt work nor does itunes. help!

.wv files are compressed by WavPack, a lossless audio codec.
http://www.wavpack.com/

You have to compile it yourself, since there are no Mac OS X binaries on their website.

Edit: If you have a PowerPC Mac and can live with the previous version, download these binaries:

thanks solaris,

i downloaded the binaries you linked me to but i dont know what to do next. i dont know how to "compile" them, is there anywhere i can
read instructions or anything so i can do this? right now i have 6 gbs of music that i cant do anything with except play in cog. :(

i am including a snapshot of what i get when i open the package i downloaded. i dont know what to do with them? HELP! :)

Those are console apps. No need to compile them as you got the binaries.

Open Terminal and try to run them from the command line.

If you unpacked them to the desktop you should be able to run them as ~/Desktop/WavPack/wavunpack and it'll probably tell you what else you need to do to use it.

Looks like you might just be able to drag & drop your wv files on the wvunpack icon you showed above since the command line doesn't require anything special except the input file name. Give it a shot.

Otherwise, do you have a USB key or CD-R drive you could use to transfer the files? ftp access is unlikely.

Either of those would work as long as the drive/iPod is in PC (FAT32) format (or at least have a FAT32 partition). If they have only ever been used with the Mac you're S.O.L.

Maybe there's a WavPack plugin for QT?

Sorry that didn't help.
