Damn, I couldn't choose two?

Ah well, it's either headphones or computer speakers for my iBook (depending on where it is at the moment)

I've got the Apple Pro speakers. I can't believe how many people who see them for the first time stick their finger in the openings in the front. There's something unfortunately attractive about that big silver circle. So far I've managed to save them from harm.

When I am on my tower I use 8 inch/1 inch tweet Event studio monitors self-amplified @ 100 watts each. For sound checks I use Boston Acoustics satellites with a sub. From the couch I use an iBook with Sound Sticks. The clarity is amazing, and the sound is huge.

Sennheiser headphones are optional, depending on my needs.

Altec Lansing speakers, including two sats and a subwoofer. Good clean sound (altho the subwoofer may be a bit heavy at the wrong frequencies--but for $100, I can't complain a whole lot).

I'm curious what the hell qualifies as "other."

If its not speakers.. or headphones.. neural implants?

logitech Z-560's [back channel fills the room with the powerbook and is good for gaming on the PC desktop i suppose], and sony v600 cans when writing music or taking my PB places. i rarely use the internal speakers.

I'm using a pair of Sennheiser HD590 headphones... got em for like $250, best investment I've made in awhile.

Depends on my mood. Regular listening? Altec-Lansing computer speakers. Really good listening? Vintage Pioneer sound system. Late at night listening? Sony wireless headphones. :D

I used a Sony stereo out of the headphone port of my tower, though I'm considering those new Bose Tri-Port music/video headphone (but they're $150)...

Maybe see how eBay goes...

I use both my apple pro speakers and my headphones depending on the occasion, it's usually my speakers though.

I use an iSub with SoundSticks on my white iBook 500. Only real way to do so since it has USB and a crappy headphone - A/V combo out jack. They sound great though.

My question is, which mac's have Line out jacks? I want to buy my next Mac and make sure I can go line out to my home stereo, not headphone out.
Thanks

I do headphones & stereo speakers...but voted on stereo speakers...

I have a Y-connector from my headphone jack to the stereo...makes for a nice computer/jukebox combo... ;)

at university: sony headphones

and to all who voted 'internal speaker': shame on you! everything is better than those crappy built-ins. (i tried once to use my ibook without headphones...and i will never again...)

i just picked up a Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 setup and man is it nice. I love it. I have a pair of Labtec headphones that I use but I want something better like the audio-technica headphones I have here at work.

I know, I know. I don't listen to that much music on my ibook but when I do it's through the...(gasp!)...internal speaker. I can't use headphones because 1) I need to be able to hear the phone 2) headphones distract me from work 3) If I wear them at home my 2 year old wants to snatch them off my head!

We are going to be buying a desktop soon and I PROMISE to have some good external speakers. (Plus the wife is more of a music listener than I am!)

Please forgive me:(

I use the logitech z-560 speakers in my dorm room. I also have them so I can connect them to my TV for "surround sound" (it's not real surround since it's only a 4.1 setup, but it has a 3d sound option that works quite well). I found them to be an excellent value in speakers, for less than $150 having equal quality and power of systems costing hundreds more. I couldn't be happier. Well, if it didn't have the occasional crackle and pop caused by the powermac, I suppose that would be nice, but oh well.

I'm not a Mac authority by any means but as far as I know the PowerMac's *might* have the line out you're looking for. But not to worry. Griffin Technology makes something called the iMic. I own one of these and they're pretty cheap and work really well for what you're wanting. It hooks in through USB so any of the Macs should be able to use them.

I use the Apple Pro speakers that came with my 17in iMac, and an iSub, which my sister bought me for Christmas. Totally digging the iSub. Problem is, to get the best sound, you have to put the iSub on the floor, and then no one can see it, which is a bummer, because it is SOOOO cool looking.

I have my PowerMac patched up to a Sony Home Theatre system. No Dolby 5.1 coming out of the PM but fake surround still sounds good to me.

Pro speakers. Most people who see my iMac for the 1st time don't recognize them as speakers :)

I was tempted to put 'other' because I've bought a Behringer mixer in the last few days, and arguably the sound is going out to that, since it can then be routed out to headphones and/or monitors.

I usually use a pair of Sony headphones, but sometimes I get adventurous and use my iBooks internal speakers.

But, ever since I got my iPod, I don't listen to music on my iBook nearly as often. God I love my iPod. I really don't know how I ever lived without it.

I use an adaptor to connect two hi-fi JBL speakers directly to my QuickSilver PowerMac. These Macs (as well as flat-panel iMacs & eMacs) have built-in amplifiers and so this way the speakers are powered directly from the computer. This may not produce the loudest sound but it is certainly a desk space-saver.

All my CD were catalogued and ripped into MP3s using iTunes. The quality is Variable Bit Rate greater than 160kbs, joint stereo at 44.1 kHz. I use a different (internal) hard drive to store my MP3s because I do not wish to slow down the performance of the OS while listening to music.

I have a set of Monsoon MM-702 flat panel speakers (with sub), hooked up to a Roland VM-3100Pro digital mixer which is connected via S/PDIF to an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 sound card. ;)

For headphone listening I use either a pair of AKG K-220M, or Sennheiser HD 433 headphones.

Sounds great!! :D

i have an optimus stereo hooked up to the audio out on my lime imac, luckily the onboard soundcard is good and the short (2-3 foot) cable that i connect with is less succeptible to interference. the 30w stereo can really pump it up, even without a sub the audio is clear, distortion free and very powerful
