2. Just the stuff I use regularly: Finder, Dashboard, Safari, Mail, iTunes, Adium, DVD Player, KotOR, VLC, Limewire, Tetris (Quinn), QT, Marble Blast, Word, Excel, Entourage, Preview, Sys Prefs and Tomato Torrent.
3. Just the standard ones
4. Usually to the left, with Adium on the right.
5. Just music
6. Folder, occasionally column
7. None
8. Just HD and occasionally things I need to get to easily temporarily.
9. Mail for my ISP account and Entourage for hotmail (though I wish there was something better, its so slow and clunky)

2. What items do you keep in the dock (everything, daily used, many times daily used) Those always on (Finder, iTunes, Mail, Firefox, Vienna) plus Safari's/Firefox' Downloads folder, the occasional project folder and the Trash. I'm using Quicksilver as my main launcher... :)

2. near-daily use icons only - iTunes, Adium X, Word, XCode, Taco HTML Edit, Seashore, Firefox, Terminal, TextEdit
3. Bluetooth, battery, Airport, speaker, PCMCIA card (when inserted), digital clock

7. I have added a couple of folders I find I wand to navigate to often, and removed "Computer"
8. I have my downloads go to the desktop by default, then move them if they're to keep or delete them after use otherwise so icons on my desktop vary as I work. Currently no icons.
9. I only use web interfaces to email
10. I don't use RSS

2. Applications that I use reasonably often.

3. Left to right: Skype, QuickSilver, iScrobbler, Classic, Script menu, Airport, Bluetooth, Flag (American and Hiragana and Katakana), Battery, and day/date/time.

5. Music and video. I have a 5G iPod, so of course any video on my iPod is in iTunes. Both purchased and ripped video in there.

6. I use all three views about equally.

7. Yes, I'm constantly adding (and removing) stuff that I'm using often.

8. Currently I only have Macintosh HD on my desktop. However, I use my desktop like a real desk. Sometimes it's messy and has quite a few files and folders on it. Every week or so, I clean it up and organize everything. If there's anything on it, it's something I downloaded/saved/created recently and want quick access to, yet have been too lazy to better organize so far.

I use two Macs, a 12" 1.33 GHz PB and a Dual 1.8 GHz G5. Both of them are in my signature. The answers in this post are for my PowerBook. My Power Mac is set up and used differently.

5. To be honest, I hardly use it, except to play music, but I don't listen to that much music. Maybe Phantom of the Opera and the Metroid Prime and Zelda soundtracks.

2. Mail and Safari, Adium, Halo, Photoshop, Smultron, Cyberduck, iTunes, Handbrake.

3. Desktop manager, Adium menu item, Quicksilver, fast user switch, airport, time, spotlight

5. just music, I put my ripped DVDs in folders.

6. List or column.

7. Folders I need to get to (i.e. my current projects)

8. A "downloads" folder for internet downloads, hard drive ... I like to keep it simple.

10. I don't really read RSS, I'd rather view the actual website.

What Mac/s do you use?:
I had a MDD 1Ghz PowerMac for the past couple years, but recently got:
My new Intel iMac, 17" 1.8Ghz Dual Core with extra 19" monitor to replace PowerMac.
I have an iBook (early 2005) for taking around my campus.

About 20. Stuff that I use at least once a week.

Don't use Safari.

Usually just documents thats I'm working, kind of a temporary folder so I can open files quickly eg. Resume, shopping list, a web page etc.

2. Always: PathFinder, SystemPreferences, Safari, Mail, iCal, Excel, Pages, Keynote, LaTeX Equation Editor, BiBdesk, iTeXMac, iPhoto, iTunes, Terminal, X11, finkCommander, Fetch, Xcode, Calculator, Mathematica, Matlab.
Most Days: Preview, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Maple.

3. DesktopManager (3 screens), MenuMeters (network and CPU), Bluetooth, AirPort, Sound, DisplayPreferences, Time, Battery, Spotlight.

4. Top left.

5. Short videos and compressed DVDs in iTunes, larger videos sit in the Movies folder.

6. Mostly list (sort by kind or date), except for smaller ones or those with lots of pics, then folder with preview for all images.

7. PathFinder sidebar has several document folders plus all the main ones.

8. Todays documents (things to be emailed, edited a lot), plus a backup folder, and a SmartFolder with the past 7 days' modified files. USB flash drives and my FW backup drives at home sit there sometimes.

9. Mail

10. Safari (also use a widget for quick looks) and the RSS screensaver.

This is for my PowerBook (My #1 favorite computer). My iMac is newer and far less customized (waiting for more Universal Apps).

Depends on my needs. Usually, list though.

Only files that I'm working with immediately, mounted network volumes, and mounted removal media devices. My desktop is for viewing wallpaper, not being cluttered with icons.

Mail.app

1. My Dock's on the bottom of my primary (internal) display.

2. My Dock has selection of my most-used applications (eMail, browser, Terminal, iTunes iCal, text editor and Keynote.) No files/folders/bookmarks or anything else.

3. My menubar has the usual stuff: Volume, AirPort, Bluetooth, battery, and the clock.

4. New Safari windows are spawned off-center on my secondary (external) monitor

5. iTunes is just for music. I keep videos in folders, and watch them in QuickTime.

6. My Finder windows are usually in List view, with the toolbar/sidebar off. Like the System 7 days....

7. What sidebar? :)

8. My Desktop holds whatever files I'm working on in any given day, plus aliases for AppleWorks and my Documents folder

9. I'm very fond of QUALCOMM Eudora 6.2

10. None. I find RSS needlessly distracting.

All this on a PowerBook G4 12" 1.5GHz with an external display.

7. Have you added any extra items to the Finder's sidebar? The 'Utilities' folder, which I pasted the icon from 'installer' on so it wasn't an ugly blue folder in the sidebar.

Just mounted drives, usually - sometimes I'll work with some files on there, but never keep anything on it longer than a few hours.

Mail.app

1. Bottom.
2. Mail, Safari, Address Book, iTunes, iLife '06 apps, iCal, Quicktime, Unison (don't use half of them, but haven't got around to sorting them out).
3. Bluetooth, Airport, Volume, clock, Eject, Spotlight.
4. Centre.
5. Music only.
6. Folder (usually).
7. My "Downloads" folder.
8. A copy of the "My Documents" folder from my PC (not fully sorted out yet).
9. Mail.
10. Don't use RSS.

I use a Mac mini.

We choose Mac's because we love to be different and unique, how do you like your machines?



1. Bottom, hidden

2. daily used apps, and a link to Macrumors!!

3. nothing but the norm, butmy iMac is only a day old, so I haven't had the time.

4. Center

5. I use iTunes for my Mpg and Mov files, VLC for everything else.

6. List!! With large icons

8. Just my HDs and iPods and iDisk
