If I have to pay restocking fee for refurb ibook can I play around with it?

I have a refurb ibook untouched in its box and called for an RMA since im going for a new imac instead. They are still charging me a restocking fee despite being unopened. Can I open it then and play around with it for a night? get my money's worth?

Im an anxious switcher and will not have an imac until late february.

I am on it right now. And am now very happy with my decision to return it and get the imac. Not a bad computer but not for me.
