This was previously reported (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/01/20060120013705.shtml). No new information appears available.

New iPod shuffles maybe?

I wonder what else Apple could have up their sleeves. I don't think they would have an event just for new shuffles.

Probably the red AIDS, TB, Malaria iPod as well as a shuffle update (1 GB nano), and maybe the "real" video iPod???

February is going to be good month. I turn 20 next week, my MBP ships the following week, and a Music event after that.
Bring on some new gadgets Apple! I'd personally love a wireless speaker system!

Without a Pepsi/iTunes promotion announcement, nothing will cheer me up.

Well it's a pretty safe bet that SOMETHING else is coming after MacWorld. New Shuffles, Red iPod, and new iTunes partnerships or services seem likely. So do the rumored non-iPod DLDs--the Mighty Boombox or whatever. So do Core Solo Macs, but not at a music-focussed event. Unless there's a new HT model (not, of course, replacing the low-end Mini) and it's a "media" focussed event in general. Sounds like a long shot to me though.

Hmm... another music event you say? Could this mean we could finally be getting color iPod shuffles? :D

New iPod to replace the superscratchy nano and the shuffle at the same time. Small with an OLED screen like the Sony E400/500.

To coincide with the reformation of Split Enz? That would be cool.

The rumor (and I stress "rumor") is that it's an iTunes [B]MUSIC[B] event. Those of you wanting DVR and Mac Tablets and radical new iPods, you're going to be big-time dissapointed.
My guesses (or dreams):
1) New iTunes music stores for other countries.
2) Some sort of new "streaming" Podcast or concert by some big-name music group.
3) POSSIBLE announcement of the Shuffle's demise and a 1 Gig iPod nano appearing (but I doubt it).
4) A formerly hard-to-get artist now releasing their catalogue in iTunes. POSSIBLY the Beatles, but again, I doubt it.

It seems to me that a revamped Intel Mini as home media center would qualify as a "music event." Especially if iTunes were seriously revised to serve as the center of the home media hub. Right now, it's a real pain to use a mac as a home media center. For example, if I buy iTunes music on one computer, it's hard to get it on my media center computer. The same applies for other media -- it's a mess. If Steve can apply his "easy to use" philosophy to this -- and throw in a DVR to boot -- I'm probably buying.

It would be great if they announced some shows on iTunes for the UK. If they did it would finally convince me to get an iPod!

What comes after "nano"? Easy. It's "pico" maybe we will get a "Pico Pod"?
In theory how small could you make a 512MB mp3 player? At some point it becomes so small you lose it or need tweezers to handle it. I think if they put the whole Nano functionality inside the new FM radio/remte control's form factor they would have a real winner. One other idea is to put the mp3 player inside the earbuds and do away with the little box all together.
So, there are many ways to replace a shuffle other then with a crippled nano. I doubt they would discontinue the shuffle without having a replacement that is better I'll bet it's a "pico" or whatever they decide to call it.

Considering that Apple Records is currently involved in litigation with Apple Computer, consider that the longest of long shots.
It would be nice, though, if Steve could announce a settlement of this lawsuit sometime soon. Wasn't there a trial date set for June, IIRC?

Wasn't there a trial date set for June, IIRC?If they make progress on a settlement, I think it will very likely leak, or be announced by someone else, before Apple can make an announcement, especially at a scheduled "event" by prior invitation.
Unlike the secrecy Apple likes to have with its own products, Apple Computer probably can't keep a lid on the Apple-Apple lawsuit because of the many other interested parties involved.

I hope Apple comes out with an 80Gb video Ipod. Using Toshiba's new 1.8" perpendicular hard drive. I read an article dated August 2004 that stated Toshiba was manufacturing a 1.8" "Ipod size" drive in this capacity. Let's all hope Apple was lucky enough to get their hands on some of these drives. As for the Ipod form factor, I like it. Its still pocketable, yet just large enough to enjoy say a Pixar short, video podcast, music video, movie trailer, or my favorite; Warner Bros. "Bugs Bunny", "Daffy Duck", "Willie Coyote and The Road Runner" cartoons.:) Heck, if the hard drive capacity was increased you could probably get an entire feature film on the device, without the special features of course. You could do that with the current 60Gb model but it probably takes up a lot of space I would think.

I encode feature films to about 650MB, with H.264 they look pretty good. I could fit nearly 100 of them on a 60GB iPod. Even if the iPod could play Video_TS folders, most of them are only ~6GB in size so you could get 10 of them on with no compression at all.
I don't know why you'd think you need 80GB just to get one movie on there.

I don't think I need 80Gb in an Ipod. I WANT 80Gb in an Ipod. Just because its technologically possible. I'm one of those technophiles that thinks because we have the technology why not use it. Doing so can only make things better for Apple. I think that the 30 and 60Gb Ipods released in October 2005 was just Apple's way to appease the Ipod video fans and say to the industry that "video on a portable device is the next big thing and that we're going to do it better than anyone else has done it so far."

Yeah, that's all well and good but you said you wanted 80GB cause then you could fit "a feature film" on it. You don't need 80GB for a feature film is what I'm saying.
80GB would be very cool, I was just correcting your impression that feature films took up nearly 60GB of space.

ANY NEW THOUGHTS ON THIS EVENT NOW THAT THE 1GB NANO HAS ALREADY BEEN RELEASED? Sorry for the caps - do we have a date for this event? Perhaps a Valentines iHeart (remote controlled toyboy/girl) Wait - that would make the event 'NEXT TUESDAY'!!!
Just a thought,

We in Belgium are really hoping to get some video content on iTMS, which was announced to be released in 2006, we always have to wait to get new stuff like that (really bothering me, it's not like we are in the middle of nowhere)
I would also expect a new shuffle, like some have predicted
I'm really not an expert or even an amateur, so forgive me if this idea is silly, but it might also be adding a slot in the iPod for some form of media storage (like the sony UMD discs), giving the possibility to buy media or other stuff offline, or sharing it by writing from your iPod to the ??(I dunno)
It's a longshot, but it worked well for the PSP (hard to compare, but shares some features with the iPod)
(anyway, I'm rooting for a new iBook in March, so let's al hope and pray)

I don't understand the fascination with giant movie files. The iPod only plays up to a certain rez, right? I obtained (yes) a movie with a file size of ~650 megs. I used iSquint to re-rez and h.264 it down to iPod playable size and got a final size of ~180 megs. If I'm willing to watch tv shows at iPod rez, why not movies too and save some space?
