Hey I would love to get one of the new mac minis (with DVR) and hook it up to a 50 inch apple monitor for my living room/den. Obviously I wouldn't use the mini for comp work, but I was wondering if I could play movies/musicon my Powerbook using the mini's frontrow.

Any specs for the new mini? Huge harddrive and GUI would be great

What exactly are you referring to? A multimedia Mac mini hasn't been released yet (although we would like one to be), and we don't know what the specs will be.

Yeah, sorry for being unclear, I just thought there were planned chips etc for the mini and maybe some rumors I'd missed. thanks for the answers

Yes, I would imagine that that Mac mini coming with a nifty graphical user interface would be a great thing. It would be a hell of a lot better than the command line Macs we're all using right now. :)

Nobody knows much at all about the next Mini...

...there are pretty believable rumors that suggest that it will have a Core Solo CPU (same as the next iBook), but beyond that your guess is as good as mine. Nobody knows what other hardware it will have.

I hope it has a much better GPU this time around, and if Apple were smart they would also redesign the case so that it is easy to open, or at the very least easy to perform a RAM upgrade.

perznally i'm picking they'll keep the mini as a basic entry model, only changing the chip and upgrading here and there. IMO DVR is more likely to appear in a new model with a different form factor (to accomodate a 3.5 HD if nothing else), more focused on media center usage.

We have a mini hooked up to our 36" tv and a panasonic dvd/dvr. We can put a dvd in the mini and watch it on our tv screen and record it on the dvd/r player at the same time. We can also use our tv as an additional monitor. The resolution for using it as a computer screen is not great, but for movies it's fine. :)

LOL. It was one of those things where my hands refused to let the opportunity pass me by and just started typing without my approval.
